I kinda had a situation like yours. my baby was about the same age and wasn't having bowel movements. i called the doctor and they said if she doesn't seem uncomfortable and doesn't look bloated don't worry about it. She didn't seem to be uncomfortable. when she would go she did also turn red in the face and grunt while she was pushing too however she didn't cry. you may want to see what they say since she is crying
my daughter was going like every 3-4 days for probably the first 2 months but now they are coming more regularly (shes 5 months now)

Paulis,

I asked my doc that cause my baby wasn't going either, the pedi said that they can go 5 to 7 days without a bowel movement and on the 7th day if they still haven't went to give them 1 to 2 ounces of water and thats it. NEVER give them water just to give them water, but alittle bit will help them go to the restroom remember wait 7 days.

Paulis,
when my baby was a hospitilized as a newborn, they would not let her be released until she had a bowel movement. So the doctor showed me how to encourage a bowel movement by gently massaging her anus.

That didn't work, so after about 5 hours of having me do that every hour or so, Doc put a small amount (about the size of a tiny pea) of vaseline up in her anus, not too far, and gently massaged it. My Little One had a bowel movement about two hours later.

Doc told me that if we ever have this problem at home to massage first, and after 8 hours if there is no bm, to do the vaseline only once a day, with hourly gentle massaging.

Hope this helps.

The same thing happend to my daugher who is now 6 weeks old. She would turn red and everything. We talked to our doctor and she said the same but my mom tried a old remedy, a small amount of olive oil in a teaspoon and feed it to her and she'll poop it right out. It worked for her but I know it's a family thing so if your not sure about trying it then that's fine cause I was weirded out too. Good luck though. I know it's hard to see them strain for days.

I wouldn't introduce olive oil to an 8 day old infant. Too many bacteria.

It is very unusual for a brand new baby to go that long. Especially breastfed.

I would call the doctor. I would take her to Urgent Care if there was not appt available for today.
