okay lets see if i can word all of this to where it makes sense....
i've read that when you feed a baby formula when they are about coles age, 2 1/2 months, they should be eating about 4oz ver 4 hours or so....i breastfeed cole and he eats about every 4 hours or so...but sometimes (like yesterday) i let his aunt watch him for a little while while i went to the store and while i was gone she fed him a bottle and i pumped as soon as i got back home to make up for missing the feeding. when i pumped i got 8oz out.
so my question is...when he nurses does that mean he is eating closer to 8oz every 4 hours??? if thats the case no wonder he is such a chunk and also, why would i be making so much milk? i thought i was only supposed to make what he needs...not twice that....

well, as you can see i'm very confused so please, if anyone knows anything about this please let me know.

Breastfed babies can NEVER be overfed so no worries there, formula is another story. Also know that pumping is never an indication as to how much you are making. Trust your body and your son because he is making sure he is getting the perfect amount! Finally NEVER compare breast to formula when it comes to almost anything. You are doing a great job and I am sure you and your son are producing the perfect food for him!!! So no more worrying!! Feed on demand and enjoy every minute because it flies by way to quickly!

Mamal is 100% right. Breastmilk and formula are nothing alike. And your body will produce the perfect amount for your son based on his nursing habits.

In my experience, if you're pumping 8 oz, there's a good chance he's eating more than 8 oz. . . I've always heard that your baby gets more out of you than a pump. . . which makes sense. . .and it felt that way to me at least. I would not worry one minute about it. . . he will eat as much as he needs to eat. . . especially if you're keeping him on somewhat of a regular schedule. Have you considered freezing your extra breastmilk?
