I need some help. My parents and some of their friends are coming to visit my husband and I on Sunday. We are going out to a restaurant to eat, but then everyone is coming back to our place for dessert and conversation. I need ideas and/or recipies for a dessert that I can make for 10 people. I'm not a horrible cook, but I'm no gormet chef by any means, so nothing to complicated. Anybody have any suggestions...? ↓

I like trifles. Layers of cake or brownies/puddings/whip cream/fruit, etc.
www.allrecipes.com is a good website--then search for "trifles" or anything else--they have a "dessert" catergory too. ↑ |
I think I really like this posting I am just going to read all the great desert and drool!!!
I dont have any good reciepes sorry. ↑ |
I agree with the whole buy a pie and pretend you cooked it. They'll never know...and you can buy some vanilla ice cream to go with it. Everyone likes pie and icecream and it's the time of year when it's really good! ↑ |
I make awesome cheesecake and it's relatively easy to make...if you want the recipe let me know and I'll post it...I don't want to ytpe it all out if you're not interested. BTW my pumpkin cheesecake will have them drooling!! ↑ |
Allrecipes.com is a life saver. They have everything! ↑ |

ive been craving apple pie and pumpkin pie, or any kind of pie but mainly those two but no one else in my house likes pies... grr! ↑ |
Whenever I have to make desert for more than a couple people I usually do some type of parfait thing... the dollar store sells cheap glasses 2 for a buck or you can use your wine glasses. I have a recipe for a tirimisu that you can make parfait style like that. If that sounds like something you might want to try I can look for it. Of course I don't use rum - just the coffe... but it compliments the after dinner coffe well if you do that sort of thing. (I don't drink - so I don't entertain with "after dinner wine") ↑ |
P.s. I think you and I should knock out a pumpkin pie together then Coartney... I want some too, but Paul doesn't eat it. ↑ |
sweet! anyone want to split an apple pie warm with nilla ice cream? HAHA.. im gonna be a FATTY ↑ |
This probably wouldn't be good for a "company dessert"---but I thought I would share....me and my hubby were craving some cookies (well I mentioned it and he went along)...but being 9:00 at night I really wasn't in the mood to "bake"....then I remembered an easy cookie recipe I saw on allrecipes.com---its just ONE cup of Peanut Butter, ONE cup of Sugar, and ONE egg! mix it up, put spoon fulls on a pan, and bake at 350. I don't think they would win a blue ribbon---but for a late night craving they hit the spot! And I am justifying eating cookies this late because they are full of PROTIEN---babies like PROTIEN! :) ↑ |
Ok, thanks for all the ideas, sorry I didn't post back last night but I went to bed as soon as I got home from work. Feeling much better today.
I've been craving pumpkin pie a lot lately. Kristy84, if you get on sometime today can you post your recipie for the cheesecake? Thanks so much. And if I don't feel up to making that then I am probably just going to go out and buy a couple pies and ice cream. I've never bought a premade pie before, but I'm definitely thinking now is as good a time as any to start. I'm sure I'll want pie at Thanksgiving/Christmas time and Lord knows I'm not about to take the time to make one with a new baby to take care of as well!! ↑ |
I will have it posted by this evening. I'm just checking in on the board and off to the museum I must go for one of my courses. ↑ |

I couldn't find my pumpkin cheesecake recipe, but I do know that this one is very similiar to mine. Make sure you use a springform pan if you decide to make it....you don't need the allspice; I personally don't like it.
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
5 tablespoons butter -- melted
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
24 ounces cream cheese -- softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup canned pumpkin
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
whipped cream
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Make the crust by combining the graham
cracker crumbs with the melted butter and 1 tablespoon sugar in a medium bowl.
Stir well enough to coat all of the crumbs with the butter, but not so much as
to turn the mixture into paste. Keep it crumbly. Press the crumbs onto the
bottom and about two-thirds of the way up the sides of a springform pan. You
don't want the crust to form all of the way up the back of each slice of
cheesecake. Bake the crust for 5 minutes, then set it aside until you are ready
to fill it. In a large mixing bowl combine the cream cheese, 1 cup sugar, and
vanilla. Mix with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the pumpkin, eggs,
cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice and continue to beat until smooth and creamy.
Pour the filling into the pan. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes. The top will turn a
bit darker at this point. Remove from the oven and allow the cheesecake to cool.
When the cheesecake has come to room temperature, put it into the refrigerator.
When the cheesecake has chilled, remove the pan sides and cut the cake into 8
equal pieces. Use dental floss to make a clean cut. Serve with a generous
portion of whipped cream on top. ↑ |
