Aliyah Taylor has arrived!
4/28/2007
9:51am
7lbs 5oz, 19.5 inches

Well Thursday night I started having contractions and I layed in bed watching TV until they were 6-7 minutes apart for an hour then I woke up my husband at about 2am and it took a minute for it to sink in that I wasn't joking and it was time to go. We packed up our bags and checked in to the hospital. When they checked I was dialated to 4/5 and she said I'd be staying. Probably about 2 hours later I got an epidural and was in happy land. I felt almost nothing. the only thing I did feel was some pressure but sometimes not even the pressure of the contractions. My doc came in around 6am and checked me and I was dialated to a 10 so she broke my water and there was meniconium in there, she said we'd just wait until I started feeling the pressure to push. I never felt the pressure, but while we were waiting I suddenly had to throw up and I threw up and we grabbed a nurse and as soon as the nurse came in she immediatly ran back out and pretty soon my room had like 10 people in there rushing around putting oxygen on me and spreading my legs open and hooking up internal monitors and doing all sorts of stuff. Turns out when I threw up I pushed her down really fast and the cord wrapped around her neck and made her heart rate drop really low. After a few minutes of them doing whatever they did her heart rate went back up and then the Dr. said we'd start trying to push. Her heart rate went down everytime but picked right back up as soon as I stopped so she had the real Doc on standby for a c-section (she's a midwife, can't do that) and she had pitocin and a vacuum on standby as well, but didn't have to use any of them. So I pushed for probably about an hour and out she came.

My total labor including the hour at home was only 8 hours. And after the epidural I felt no pain at all, we were cracking jokes and laughing in between pushes. I got really, really lucky, even my small drama of her heart rate dropping only lasted about 10 minutes and then everything went back to being a piece of cake. I'm even doing great pain wise. My tear was a 2nd degree tear and for the last two days I've heard nothing but nurses exclaiming how horrible I look down below but it's mildley sore.

Breastfeeding has been more challenging. I couldn't get her to latch on myself and I got zero sleep at the hospital, but before I was allowed to leave the hospital I had to get her to latch on by myself or else they wanted me there another night. I finally am able to but she still pinches a little so sometimes I have to use a breast shield to get her on ok.

Alright that's my update, I'm not going to proof read so hopefully it all makes sense.
