Ok, I am actually going to take some time and post a few things...

First, here is a link about all the extra stuff they add to jar foods that they are not required to add to the ingredients list.

g/reports/cheat1.html

Thi
s
is a link to the site that I have given everyone who has asked me about homemade food
www.wholesomebabyfood.com

Now I don't need to send it all out to seperate people... I give Kaden things like musrooms, chicken, olives avacado, cantelope, apples, cheese and macaroni... I think it opens them up to try new things when you offer them more variety than what is in those jars. With the rising childhood obesity figures I decided to make sure that Kaden got used to healthy foods that many kids would turn their noses up to.

Yeah I bombard and you don't answer back---hmmmpphhh! :D

I just read the site about the stuff they add to the baby foods---Its good to know that Beech-Nut does not add sugar and fillers. I understand homemade is still more healthy---but for convience reasons jarred baby food will be used in my house some (working momma). I like adding more variety with the recipes etc from the wholesome food website though!!

BUT even though Gerber and other baby foods are not ideally the BEST for baby---for the "average" mom I wish they were used more. I mean I read that the number one vegetable that most kids eat before the age of one is the FRENCH FRY!! WTF?! Now those kids would be doing a heck of a lot better if they were still eating the Gerber baby foods! :)

beach nut make an oraganic baby food. I plan to keep some of tht on hand for when making it isn't possiable. I think that gerber has an organic also. My concern is what they have to put in it to make it last so long. Lord knows the veggies in my fridge do not have a 6mo shelf life no matter how tightly I seal them :)

wow randi, i didn't know about that first website. what REALLY prompted me to make my own baby food was when i pureed a banana and it turned brown within 2 minutes. when you buy bananas at the store, they're a creamy, beige kinda color. so i knew then that they had added some preservative/coloring crap.

what i think is great about it is that, for example, one peach (when cut into chunks and boiled then pureed) can make enough baby food for evelyn for over a week. if you take the amount you'll spend on the dual package of babyfood from gerber (in the plastic tubs) it's equal to the amount you'll spend on a month's worth of fruit for your baby. the little jars last maybe what, 3 or 4 days? it's very cost effective and makes me feel productive lol

hey there is this stuff called fruit fresh, and you sprinkle it on the cut fruit and it wont change the color or taste of the fruit, it works really great on apples, they sell it at your grocery store
