Hi everyone. I'm not sure how pregnant I am but I've been having major cramps for 3-4 weeks. I haven't had my 1st Dr. visit yet but her assistant said it was normal. Then I read somewhere where cramps esp. painful one's were not good at any stage. Should I be comcerned?

Hi Niki, Before I got pregnant, I had the worst menstrual cramps, they would completly take me down to the point I missed work...before I found out I was pregnant, I had the bad cramps and thought my period was coming. It turns out I was pregnant however. I continued to have the cramps up until about 7-8 wks. They were very severe at times. They happened especially at night or when I changed postions. My doctor ordered a sonogram to make sure it wasnt an eptopic preganacy which it wasnt thankfully. Everything is completley normal. I am 11 wks now and hardly get the cramping anymore. They told me it was because of the uterus growing and the ligaments stretching. Some people are just happen to get his more than others. But you should really see your doctor to rule out any problems.

Early cramps around 6-7 weeks prego are implantation cramps but they normally are brief. Round ligament pain/ cramping begins around week 14 continues till about the 20th week and then normally returns in the 7 month, they appear worse upon twisting and turning. Etopic pregnancy have pain that is concentrated on 1 side. Are you bleeding/spotting? If the pain continues INSIST on a u/s. You can even go to the ER, they will so a u/s there. Good luck.

Hey Nikki, well i am now 23 weeks and i have had cramping throughout my pregnancy, I to felt like it was just menstrual cramps, but no period. at first my doc said it was completely normal, but with my ultrasound 1weeks later they found out i have placenta previa. i would definatly tell your doc as soon as possible, most of the time they are completely normal, they even say brown blood (old blood) is okay and happens to some women. Do you have any idea how far along you are? when was your last period? hope this helps get back to us.

Thanks everyone. I do think that I am maybe a month. I had one big cramp the other day as I was laying in bed. I went to scoot down and I felt a sharp pain on my side. It made me yell so loud that my husband heard it in another room. This is my first baby, I'm 31 and I am clueless as far as what to expect. I wanted to go the Dr ASAP but they told me that I had to be at least 9 weeks. I thought that a 9 week wait was too long for a first visit. I have no bleeding or spotting which is good I guess. The cramps susbsided but I am still concerned.

Niki, if I were you...I would insist that I want to be seen. Your doctor should respect your wishes and it would provide a great peace of mind. If your dr. refuses, I would suggest finding a different provider.

I just found out that I am pregnanct with my 4th child. According to my dates I am 5 weeks pregnant and am too having cramping. Nothing major but just annoying. I had the same thing with my last son and had spotting with all 3 prior pregnancies and all turned out good. So I wouldn't worry unless the cramping is accomanied by heavy bleeding.

I went to the Dr today and baby is doing fine. The cramps subsided a little and the Dr said I was OK.

Thank goodness
