Okay... NOW I can really post. lol.

I went into labor exactly 24 hours after I lost my mucus plug! 5:00 am Paul's alarm went off and my water broke (that would be on the 8th). By 9 am I was 5 centimeters dilated and having an epidural.... and by noon the doctor came in to check my progress and the baby was crowning. I pushed until 1:45 - but the first hour of that wasn't strenuous pushing, just "testing it out" as the nurse called it. I didn't readminister my epidural medicine and let it wear off, which turned out to be a big mistake because the doctor ended up doing an episiotomy without any pain medication. THAT hurt!!! But the rest of it was fine.

Joshua was born 5 pounds 4 ounces, 18 inches long. He had oxygen for the first couple of hours, which is procedure. Over the next couple of days he was on an IV and a bili-light for 24 hours. The weaned down the IV and gave more and more expressed breast milk over the next few days until the IV was out and he was eating an ounce at a feeding. We were in the hospital almost 9 days total.

Now we're home and everything is going good. Josh is healthy as a horse and has an appointment to see his pediatrician on Tuesday. The sleep situation is difficult because I have to add an extra 20 minutes to every feeding to pump - and Josh WONT sleep in his bassinet here. The second I put him down in it he screams. He will sleep on the couch, on the floor, on me, on dad... but not in the bassinet. I have a hard time falling asleep with him in our bed because I'm afraid he'll get squished. So I'm TIRED! lol.

I posted pictures at www.millerbaby.photosite.com. I have a ton more, but I just dont have the energy to post every one of them. I'll add more each day.

Thank you for all your thoughts and kind wishes! I missed chatting with you all. Unfortunatly it doesn't look like I'll have much time to spare for the next couple weeks. Hopefully I can pop on and off.

congrats on your little bub! My daughter is the same way with her bassinet, we barely got any sleep until we bought this teddy bear that plays heart beat noises like in the womb, it calms her down enough to where she wont cry and than she falls asleep.....maybe one of those might help you? best of luck

I think I found a fix for the bassinet thing. I put his boppy in there and put him on top of it (... no he can't roll out and there isn't anything near his face...). I think the bassinet was just to big compared to his little isolette at the hospital. It's on of those Pack N Plays, so it was pretty spacey. He's sleeping in there now. : )

Thanks again for all the nice comments!

Awww Nicole, Josh is adorable. He doesn't even have that preemie wrinkled look at all! He looks so healthy and great!

I had the same problem with the bassinet. I ended up putting Sophie in one of those moses baskets, and then the moses basket in her cradle. That way I could still rock her, but she was nice and snug. Eventually I was able to put her in the cradle without the basket.

congratulations to you and your family too! Keep in touch when you can - I know those first 6 weeks are exhausting:)

Wow Vane! That's pretty amazing that they released him so soon... usually even 36 weekers have a bit of a stay. You must have just cooked him on the 'high' setting. lol.

I was pretty lucky compared to some of the other moms in the NICU. The hospital I delivered at doesn't accept women less than 34 weeks, but there was a 34 weeker in there who wasn't doing quite so well. Her mom was VERY VERY young, too. It was sad. I left my phone number for her mom and asked her to keep in touch if she needed some help with anything. She was born the same day as Josh and she's expected to be in there for a couple more weeks. : (

Tana was 35 weeks and was totally fine.....it was scarey when my waters burst because I kept thinking the worst....but he was ok.....small but ok.

Take care Nicole!

i know, im very lucky that he was born perfect little mini baby, LOL. I dont know how i would deal with him in the NICU for a few days, i cant even imagine what it would feel like to leave him there for a couple of weeks!! = (

it was very nice and thoughtful of you to leave your number for the girl, many people dont do stuff like that nowadays.
