I'm 2 days over my due date, and the Doctor had me come in the office today, I was at a loose 3 and at 60%, she was rubbing the babies head, she said she doesnt understand why I havent went yet, my bodies ready and the babies ready, but nothing is happening, so she decided to strip my membranes. I'm just wondering if it really works!

All i remember is that was prob the most painful thing ever! In my case, i went in labor right away when my membranes were stripped. I had strong contractions right after. 7hrs later i had my daughter. Good Luck and take care!

i don't know if it works or not, but i heard it can be painful. i think it probably helps things along, but i would say it's different for everyone. worth a try though, if your doc will do it!

My water broke less than 24 hours after having my membranes stripped and I delivered 23 hours after that. It didn't hurt at all to have them stripped though.

I have had mine stripped twice, and it hasn't done anything for me. My due date is today, and I am scheduled to be induced tomorrow!

actually....I thought stripping membranes was the same thing as breaking your waters....whats the difference?

stripping the membranes is a procedure where a doctor seperates the bag of waters from the lining of the uterus. it helps produce prostaglandins which stimulate labor. the procedure is only effective if the baby is "ready". usually, if that is the case, you'll go into labor within 48 hours. if not, then the baby isn't ready to be delivered.

With my 1st daughter the dr did it on "accindent" I was only 36 1/2 weeks and I went into labor 4 hrs later.

With my 3rd the dr stripped my membranes at 40 weeks and nothing happened.

It worked for me but I was already 3cm and 70% effaced. My doc stripped them at 1pm and I went back at 2am and had my baby at 8:55am
