From my experience, at 36 weeks I was dialated to 1cm and barely effaced. By 37 weeks I was 2cm and 50% effaced and at 38 weeks and 39 weeks I was still 2cm and 50% effaced. I didn't experience any labor symptoms until I went in to get induced. That's when I lost my plug, they broke my water and I had contractions.... But, you can go from nothing to your water breaking. It's just different for every pregnancy. ↑ |

I dont think it really makes a difference.....I was allready 2 cm and 50% effaced at 38 weeks and thought to myself yay im gonna go anytime! but didn't until I got induced when I was almost 40 weeks.....but the more you dialate and efface before you go into labor the better I think because when i was induced I was allready 4cm, so my labor wasn't that bad...and there was another girl there who looked like she was in alot of pain and I asked the nurse how she was doing and the nurse said she was only at 2! But im not a doctor so I dont know if her labor was any harder because of that....best of luck to you tho ↑ |

I went from nothing to in labor. I did not efface or dialate first at all. My son did not "drop" either. It is different for every woman ↑ |

I was 80% effaced at 38 weeks and like 1cm dilated..I was 100% effaced and 3 cm dilated when they induced me. I've heard that you have to efface before you can dilate. ↑ |

Same as Kristy. At 38 weeks - 3 cm dilated and 75% effaced. After my water broke - 3 cm and 100% effaced. ↑ |
