I am a health freak and I just don't wanna keep eating, but being pregnant is hard because I get so hungry every hour! I am going nuts! I am at work 8 hours a day and I feel like I'm shaking because I am so hungry! Any advice?

I've been eating water crackers all day. They are mostly air, and you can get whole wheat ones - so they fill up your stomach without really adding that many calories. I've been using them to stop throwing up and it was helped with that also.

thanks! I had that at work this morning, but I was still hungry! Luckily, I don't have morning sickness yet... or I'm hoping I won't experience it at all.

I've read and have been told that when your pregnant you should make sure to take in an additional 300 calories a day. I actually have morning sickness myself and will be happy when I can just eat something and not have to worry about whether or not it going to stay done. I've actually been drinking ensure (the now have one specific designed for women who are pregnant or breast feeding) just to keep my mind at ease as far as nutrients.

I would say if you don't already incorprate snack time into you eating schedule I would say add a small snack between breakfast and lunch and then another one between lunch and supper. If you already are incorporating snacks then maybe your not getting enough calories during the day. You baby will be fine because regardless of what goes in the baby will take his/her nutrients first and you will be left with whatever is left.

I was just going to say that Ethansmom - my doctor told me today not to worry about the baby eating, because nature set it up to make the woman sick first, and keep the baby healthy. So if you don't get enough protien or something you'll get anemic, but the baby will still be fine. I think I'm going to try those ensure drinks. I was underweight before getting pregnant, and am now just barely making what would be "normal" weight for a non-pregnant woman. My BMI is 18 now, which is better. So I need a few extra "good calories" during the day.

I started drinking the ensure for the extra calories and the nutrients. Again because I have had such terrible morning sickness I was more afraid that I was not getting enough for me.

Thoes ensure drinks are really good, but you can also try Boost, or Carnation instant breakfast. I have the same issue some days where i'm just beyound hungry and can't stop eating. I try to snack on fruits and veggies, or crackers and peanut butter..things that are crunchy tend to help fill you up faster and longer.

I just went with the Ensure because they now offer a line specifically for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding. But it is true things that crunchy do seem to fill you up faster and longer. It is not tended to be used as a meal option, just as a snack for extra calories or for nutrients that you may not be getting otherwise.

I am the same, but I work out a lot so I know I need to be eating a lot (gained 6 pounds so far and am 18 weeks). What I do is I snack pretty much all day long. I don't sit down and eat massive meals, but I am eating small meals all day. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, whole wheat crackers, cottage cheese with fruit, string cheese, sandwiches, salt free corn chips with salsa, cold cereal, apples with peanut butter. Etc. Just makes sure you are eating enough protein and grains cause those help keep the hunger pangs at bay. Try to avoid foods with high sugar content like pop-tarts, pastries, sodas etc, cause those just make your blood sugar spike than drop really fast making you tired, hungry and irritable. Don't be afraid of good carbs, carbs are good, they feed your brain so don't skip those! Try to keep foods ready to go so you can take several baggies to work and eat them every couple of hours. Snacking isn't bad, eating several small meals and sancks can actaully be beneficial cause you don't binge on something unhealthy and help make it so you don't get indigestion. Good luck! I feel ya!

How far along are you Timmygirl? I am just 6 weeks, and I crave Tuna so bad I acuallty had a dream of it last night. I am eating tuna, but keeping it too a can a week.
I was really hungry and I just drank lots of water.

Well.... I just eat smaller meals, and more frequent..... it seems to help...... and to Connie.... I've heard that your not supposed to eat MUCH tuna while your pregnant, because it has something in it, that your not supposed to have. (but I've just heard that... don't know if it's true)

I love tuna too but like Cnnie said, research has shown that pregnant women should not consume more than a can a week. It is beacuse of the mercury content in tuna but it also applies to swordfish and a couple other sea fish.

I tried those ensure shakes. I've never been a big eater really, and just one of them is enough to make me sleepy (lol, maybe I'm just sleepy anyways). I'm not crazy about the taste though. I think it's really making up for the food adversions.

With my first pregnancy I crave Tuna also. I talked to my doctor who told me that it was safe to eat but that I should limit the amount that I ate. You safe if you are only eating one can per week.

thanks for the advice! actually I am afraid of trying any bottled products because they are making me sick now (acidic taste)... I don't know what to eat anymore besides fruit snacks... I actually am not gaining weight.. or when do you suppose to gain weight?

Connie, I don't know how many weeks I am yet, I am going to see my OB on Monday then I'll find out... but I am guessing about 5 weeks.

You shouldn't really gain any weight until the 2nd trimester, unless you were really thin before getting pregnant. I am about 6 weeks and have gained about 3 pounds (but some of that is weight from the tumor I have). I was very very thin before though, so by the end of my pregnancy I probably will end up not weighing much more than the average woman my height. It all depends.
