Well, as most of you know I'm awaiting the gender diagnosis ultrasound (Tuesday) and so far sooo many people have told me "I know someone who was told they were having a girl, and it was a boy, I wouldn't even pay attention to that scan", and things like that.

I just looked it up and several different websites said that the accuracy is over 98% after 20 weeks. I wan't to buy pink things (or blue) and start calling my baby by it's name... but a lot of my friends are being so cynical about it.

Exactly how real do you all think the risk is that I'll be expecting a baby of a certain gender and it will pop out another? Should I just keep calling it "it" for the next 3 months, and not buy any clothes?

I think it is really low, especially you will almost be 22 weeks your ultrasound will be way more acurate then most.
I heard it to before mine, but the tech will tell you forsure its a girl or boy .
I know my tech said "95% it a boy or if it is a girl we will have some surgcial issue later on".
I heard it begining wrong, maybe if the tech can see forsure they will suggest to come again.
Keep us posted-3 lines for a girl and a pointing member for a boy lol( I just made that up)

I was skeptical when I had my "gender" ultrasound, but I still bought pink clothes. I have one or two "just in case" boy/girl outfits. All else fails, still buy clothes according to the gender prediction but keep the tags and receipts.

Yes it's true about 8-10% of the time u/s can be wrong, but genberally they call it correctly. I've had 3 3d u/s and 1 regular so I'm pretty sure I'm having a girl. You know how people are...they're always trying to make things more difficult than they have to be. Rest assured knowing that the tech is most likely correct if they get a good view of the genitals and most likely you'll have more than one anyways.

when i had my last ultrasound with my son the tech couldn't tell us for sure. she was like " i think it is a boy but i'm not 100%". so after she got done checking everything else out she looked again and then my little guy stopped being so shy and showed her. then she told us it was defiantly a boy. so if the tech isn't sure then they will let you know. don't stress too much about it.

My husband and I found out at 28 weeks that we are having a baby boy, and I couldn't be happier knowing what to call him! I just feel so much closer knowing that he is a boy! It was VERY clear on our ultrasound that he was a boy! We have the ultrasound picture up in my journal if you would like to look at it. It is very nice to know that I can buy blue clothes, instead of trying to search for something that is unisex!

I got my 1st ultrasound at 17 weeks at one of those outside u/s clinics that do the 3d/4d. The tech said girl but I didn't believe her because I was sooo sure it was a boy. Well, I went in to my doctor for a 22 week ultrasound and sure enough, we are having another girl! You can definitely tell if they get a good shot if it is a girl/boy.

honestly nicole it depends on the us tec. when you get it I would ask her how clear of a view she had. It is always easier to see a boy then a girl of course, but some people will say it's a girl becuase they do not see a penis and this is where most mistakes happen. If you have a good tec and she has a good view of the area then I would say that you can feel confident. As for the your having a girl oops it's really a boy thing. I did have that happen to me. I had to have an US at the hospital because I was having some pains. the chick said do you know what you are having I said no she then told me it looks like a girl. Anyway I didn't ask the gender at any later US because I though I already knew. Well I had a nice pink baby shower and then my dr was worried so I had to have US every week for the last 4-6 weeks. One chick said do you know what you are having I said yes a girl. She said "Honey I don't know who told you that, but this is very clearly a penis" Needless to say there was lots of stuff to take back. I knew that the second lady was correct, because she had a perfect view and could print pictures, but I really think that since the first lady did not see a penis she just assumed it was a girl.

Errors happen but the incidence is so low. Besides when they tell you the sex, take a look for yourself. If you see three lines between the legs, you're having a girl. If you see a round object between the legs with a protrusion in front of it (some people say like a turtle sticking its head out), it's a boy. Anything else may be up in the air. Btw, they told me at 12 weeks that I was having a boy. They confirmed it at 20 weeks and I would have to be blind not to see it for myself.

going all the way back to my great-great-grandma girls have always been born first, follower by a boy. I knew that I was having a girl before we found out. 4 u/s later it's confirmed...we're having a girl next month!!

I dont think that can be true cuz the male sperm is what carries the gene to tell if its a boy or girl....but it might be true for the fathers side

yup babey is right, the male carries the gender of the baby in the sperm.
Female swims faster but dies sooner
Male swims slower but lasts the longest

Nicole i wouldnt get too upset by it, how far along are you? The longer you wait to have the scan and see the gender the better. Mine wasnt 100% clear at 20 weeks, but i recently had one at 30 weeks and there is NO missing his genitalia or mistaking it for that matter.
I have pictures of my little man ( his genitalia ) if you where intrested in seeing it. You should get the professional who did the scan to point out the gender for yourself so you can see it be sure and understand it for yourself.
Hope this helps
