I have already had an ultrasound, and my initial bloodwork done, including the Hcg test twice to check for progression, at the hospital. The doctor there told me that all my results would be sent to Dr. Gold (who is going to be my OB) and that I should call today to set up an appointment as soon as possible because I am high risk and need weekly ultrasounds starting right away. I called this morning and the receptionist at his office was literally the biggest bitch I've talked to in a long long time. She asked what I was being seen for and when I told her that I'm 5 weeks pregnant she said "Well, we'll have to let the doctor see about that one!"... and she would not check for the note from the hospital, or let me talk to the doctor myself. She said that I have to meet with a nurse tomorrow and get all my blood tests done over again and wait for the results before I can see him. I tried to explain very calmly what the problem was, and let her know that my case was different, and I couldn't wait a month to see the doctor - and she inturrupted me and wouldn't let me finish. Then she hung up in the middle of me talking! There is only one OB in my whole county, and only one hospital... so I can't go somewhere else. I don't know what to do, but I am was so angry I was in tears. I guess I am going to call the emergency room doctor and try to get her to call over there personally and try and get through to that woman - but i just can't imagine how someone like that would even get a job at a doctor's office. The whole reason I got the tests done at the emergency room was so that I could skip the intake appointment and go straight to seeing my doctor right away! I hate having my blood drawn and being poked and proded - I don't feel I should have to do it any more often than I already need to. I don't know what I should do - should I call back and ask for her manager? Or just grit my teeth and take it since I don't have another option.

I would do exactly what you said. Call the hospital where you had the ultrasound done and all your blood work. Explain to them what had happen when you called to make an appointment. I wouldn't see why the hospital could call over to you OB and set up an appointment for you. And since you already had the blood work done, and they were going to send it over to you OB there is really no reason as to why you would need to have the blood work done again. I find that having one doctor make an appointment with another for me I get in alot sooner.

Call the ER, have them call and get the paperwork over to your OB, then call the witch back and say "now can I have my appointment"? Sheesh. You wonder why these people choose to work with the public.

URRRRGGHH! I called back - she won't let me speak to anyone else still, and she said that she did find the paperwork the hospital sent - but still wont let me talk to the doctor because it's not their "procedure". She wont even give me my test results or leave a message for a doctor to call me and give them to me.

I called the hospital and got lucky - I talked to a really nice woman in the lab who has children and understands what I'm going through. She got all upset when I told her what happened and there was actually a female doctor standing right next to her (not MY doctor, but A doctor). She said that doctor was going to call over there right now and explain the urgency of the situation - and speak to her manager, and Dr. Gold, about her manners. The lab tech also said just to "add a little salt to the wound" she was going to fax another copy of my test results, with a note explaining what's going on, and write a personal little message about the anxiety and fear a newly pregnant woman must be going through in a high risk pregnancy, and something about having a little compassion.

That wont really fix my problem, because I still wont know my test results or be able to talk to a doctor today (I'm sure it will be after 5 before they get the fax). But I feel a little better. I don't know how some people get by in life with attitudes like that receptionists.

The good new is that you won't have to wait an entire month to get in to see the doctor and you won't have to re-take the test. The bad news is that your still going to have to deal with this doctors office. Are you going to have this problem every time you call because you have a question about something? I think I called my doctor at least once every two week for the first three months. I didn't know if some of the things that I was experiencing were normal or not, this was my first pregnancy. It just terrible that you have to deal with all this on top of everything else. Hopefully things will get better.

Sorry, didn't see that you got the job done. I am happy to hear that you found someone to kick them in gear. I hope everything is ok, which I am sure it is.

Hi Nicole, I had the same problem today... well, I asked my husband to call to reschedule my appointment. My original appointment was September 5th, but I have to see my OB-gyn right away. I couldn't call from work because I am so busy, hubby is at home all afternoon... so he called in behalf of me. He told me that the receptionist really had an attitude and would not almost talk to my husband... My husband got upset and I don't know what he did that the receptionist transferred him to the doctor's voice mail. Anyway, my appointment is rescheduled to the 17th of this month.

LOL... I wish I had the guts to do that Armanismom. That would be hilarious! Except I've heard he's a good doctor, so I'll wait to pass judgement on him until I find out what he does about the bitch at his front desk.
