I'm 17 1/2 weeks along with my 1st pg, and it seems like I'm not showing AT ALL, like nothing, I am so worried that something's wrong. I go for an u/s on Wed, but that seems like an eternity away. My fiance says that he can see a little bump, but he can only see it after I eat. I was 5'9 135lbs. pre-pg, i've gained 7 or so lbs. thus far, so I don't know if my height is a factor. I also have very muscular abs and they say that can contribute to it. I'm worrying sick over it and I know that's not good. I read all these stories about missed m/c and that also has me concerned. We rented a fetal doppler machine so we can hear the heartbeat and it arrives today, so I'm hoping some of my fears will be quelled. When did y'all start to show w/ your 1st? I could really use a little encouragement; thanks so much.

Well I am showing now (11 weeks) but it is mostly fat! I started out 150 lbs 5'10. i get a little worried to that something maybe wrong but my stomach is starting to get harder now. If you had great abs to begin with I wouldnt worry to much I know it isnt that easy but really try. I didnt start showing with my first for quite a while I was real skinny like you and watched constantly for some drastic change. I never did get really big with her but yet she was still almost 8 lbs at birth.

I didnt show till about 4-5months at least enough for everyone else to see with my first but now with this baby I started way earlier like 4months. because you have had muscular abs it may just be more reistant to streching and it may also be your baby is carrying more to your back like my daughter did. if you are gaining weight and they can hear the babys heart ect i wouldnt worry

Hi Kristy! Don't worry (yeah, like that's possibly, I know). With someone as tall, lean and in shape as you sound, you may not "show" until well into your fifth, sixth month--or maybe not at all. It completely depends on where you're carrying. Some women carry their children so near their back, they never show--even petite ones. I'm only 5'2" and carry all my height in my legs, thus, I have very little torso area to begin with. Even though, with my first I didn't really start actually looking pregnant until into my fifth month.
You are well past the danger zone as far as miscarriage--take comfort in that and learn to enjoy the fact that you will probably be the envy of every other pregnant woman out there when you are seven months along and sporting a cute little "bump" out in front!

I have lost 15 pounds since I found out I was pregnant and I am 20 weeks today. But my tummy is big, and it isn't fatty, it is hard and firm. This is also my first pregnancy. But from what I have been told is that peoples bodies are different so they develop different. Talk to your doctor if your worried about it.

Hey Kristy84 no need to worry yourself I didnt start showing till I was about 27 weeks so really you have nothing to worry about unless your doctor says so. Dont stress yourself over it every woman and pregnancy is different. By 17 weeks I had auctually lost 15lbs due to fierce morning sickness! And also I am 5'9 and I have a longer torso and my doc told me that it would take longer to start showing.

I wouldn't worry. Every woman's body is different. I started showing with my first one at about 16 or 17 weeks. I'm now 14 weeks with my second and have been showing for quit awhiled.
My husband's Aunt at 8 months looked like she was only 5 months along.

Hey Kristy,

I just went to the Doctor yesterday and had this explained. Week 1/day 1starts on the 1st day on your last period. so, the 1st day of my last period was June 2nd, so I am mid way through my 7th week. Then you just count 7days to calculate your 40 weeks from your last period to get your due date. Hope this helps!!

hi kristy
so ur about 4 months right? with my son i didnt show until i was almost 7 months, even though i was 130lbs and 5'6", and my abs werent muscular. when i gave birth at 8 months, everyone thought i was about 4-5 months. there are some girls ive seen with the same problem, but dont worry. it's better like that cause u lose the weight faster, in my case, i gained about 30 pounds (all belly, even though nobody believed me) and went from 162 to 130 in about a month! without diet OR exercise! yes, everyone hated me casue they still had their belly, but i wore normal shirts the day after i left the hospital. everyone was so jealous. my baby weighed 5lbs9oz and was 17", but perfectly healthy! but dont worry, ur baby is fine. thanks for commenting on my post. good luck with ur pregnancy, hope everything goes great!

Wouldn't worry abt it too much. No one believe I was pregnant for the first 6 months! And when I went to be induced at 9 months the nurse told me to go home that I couldn't be more than 6 months along. I had to point out my name on the admittance chart.

Thanks so much guys!! It makes me feel so much better to know that other women were worried about the same thing. I don't think I'll be one of those women who are still nice and thin when they're 7 mths. pregnant, but keep your fingers crossed for me:) UPS just dropped off the doppler so my fiance is in a rush to get off work and try it.

I'm not totally sure how far I am -- my first appt is tomorrow. (I think im around 8 weeks though?) I can see it, and my boyfriend says he can too a little. I notice it bc I'm 5'8", 125lbs, really active, and my stomach is flat. I notice that from just under my belly button down to my pelvis it now sticks out a little farther than my hip bones (dont laugh -- thats how I measure it). And when I eat I'm a full blown blimp :) Although whenever I eat (pregnant or not) I feel like a blimp so... nothing new there! Good luck :) I'm sure that it's bc you're tall and thin -- I credit mine up a lot to imagination (I want a belly so damn it I see a belly).

i'm almost the exact same build as you. i'm just an inch taller. and i went BLAM! at like 20 weeks or so. i'm almost 25 weeks now and can't believe that a month ago i had no stomach. skinny tall girls are suppose to be able to hide it alot longer than shorter girls. so don't worry it's coming. you'll be wishing that you still weren't stickin out. lol

Vane,
I'm from San Antonio. How far is that Mcallen? I moved here recently from jax fl. I grew up in houston so I'm new to south tx.

Name: vane20 | Date: Jul 18th, 2006 3:36 AM
oh kristy! that's not south texas! McAllen is about as south as you can get! It's about 3 hrs.from San Antonio. Do you know where South Padre Island is? It's huge on spring break. I'm about 1 1/2 hrs. from there.

I started out at 135 at 5'2 (mostly muscle) with my first, gained 10 lbs in 1st trimester and i started showing at 14 weeks, with this one i started out at 156 and i started showing at 12 weeks! I like about 6 months prego and I am only 19 weeks. I gained 65 lbs with my son and he weighed 10 lbs at birth!! I think it is true that short girls show sooner but i have no-where else for my belly to go!! Good luck!! You'll show soon!!

Vane,
oh yeah I know where south padre is. I've never been there though. I grew up in Houston so we'd go to crappy Galveston. Did u grow up in Mcallen or were you transplanted there?

Name: vane20 | Date: Jul 19th, 2006 4:12 PM
i grew up here. i think id be afraid of living in a bigger city like S.A. or Houston. too many roads and exits. mcallen is really big, but i guess i know my way around already. my husband (well, fiancee) and i wanted to take our son to visit sea world or something, also to help me cope with the miscarriage. it's been a while since ive been in san antonio.

Name: hcousino | Date: Jul 19th, 2006 6:42 PM
I didn't show until 4 or 5 months, I was also sick A LOT and didn't gain any weight until then.

Vane,
You should really consider a vacation. Just something to help ease your mind a little. I know that for me, being in the same routine everyday, takes its toll. I could use a vacation as well. I haven't been to Sea World in ages. It's so freakin' hot that I just want to sit in my house under an a/c vent:)

I didnt really start showing until I was in my 5th month. And even then, it looked more like fat than a baby. Don't worry ... you'll get there!

Name: momtob | Date: Jul 25th, 2006 2:13 AM
My friend didn't starting showing until her last trimester. She also had muscular abs

Name: Marcella | Date: Jul 25th, 2006 4:26 AM

Don't worry at all!! With My first pregnancy I only gianed about 15 pounds , then with my second i gianed almost 70(twins), but with my last baby i only gianed 10 lbs and she was 5 lbs. So i didnt even show until my the end of my 7th month and it still wasnt that big.

Name: ladyblueblood | Date: Jul 28th, 2006 12:30 AM
With my first baby, I didn't start really showing until around 6-7 months along, at least enough to FIT into maternity clothes. This time seems to be the same story. I wear mostly maternity gear now, but i'm at 21 weeks and nothing else fit very well, and my baby-to-be has an undesireability to be squished. (He kicks HARD if I sit the wrong way.)

If you're honestly that worried about it, just badger your midwife or OB doctor to do an ultrasound or at least to check you with a doppler. Your worries should be their worries, Since you're 17 weeks along, you should start feeling your little one kick and move pretty soon. That's a comforting feeling that doesn't leave you constantly chewing your nails and watching the calendar for your next doctor visit so you can check on your baby.

Ladyblueblood
I had an u/s shortly after I posted this. The baby is fine, and I found out I'm having a girl. My uterus is just set very far back; I'm also tall and thin so it just takes a little longer to show. 'm almost 20 weeks now by the way. When's your due date? Mine's 12/18.

Name: ladyblueblood | Date: Jul 28th, 2006 11:24 PM
My due date is 12/4, and I can only WISH I was tall and thin. Let's just say that plus size maternity wear isn't the least bit flattering unless you want to pay about $200 for a top. I still don't "look" pregnant necessarily, just sorta fat, but I'm used to that one. If my husband gives me a hug, I can feel him mashing a hard bump on my tummy, so I know there is something there. Plus, when I lie down, my abdomen is raised quite a bit. I can still wear most of my pre-pregnancy clothes however... but no one ever said they were more comfortable.

Name: ladyblueblood | Date: Jul 28th, 2006 11:26 PM
Oh! duh! I just read that you said your uterus was tilted way back, too. As is mine. I get a lot of back cramps, sore hips, and leg pains because of it. This is one case where I can honestly say that "I feel your pain".

Name: Kristy84 | Date: Jul 28th, 2006 11:49 PM
Lady,
It doesn't matter how thin one is, the feeling of gaining weight is horrible. I totally understand about how you can stil fit into your pre-preg clothes, but they don't fit comfortable. All my clothes used to be low-rise, and suddenly their up to my waist. I feel so emotional about it, and actually am seeing a therapist to deal with it. I've suffered from eating disorders and body image problems sicne I hit puberty; which in my case was quite young. It's scary knhowing that I'm going to have a little girl. How am I going to teach her about loving yourself and self-esteem when I obviously don't possess either. I know this post is kinda off the "not showing" subject, but it's something that's been on my mind lately. We so didn't plan this pregnancy, and I feel like I'm not the least bit ready for a child; for God's sake I'm only 22. Again though, I should have been proactive about this whole situation. Do you ever wish that were you were single and didn;t have to worry about any of the bs that comes along w/ relationships? Sorry guys I just had to vent.
