I am a first time mom due in may and I am curious to know if any other mothers can advise on epidural pain relief. Does this last up until you actually deliver the baby or do you have to be able to feel the delivery part? I am scared of delivery and am hoping that there is some way to make that final part less painful. Help!!

hey there. this is my first baby also. but i know that the epidual is not just a shot, they let the medicine "drip" when you need it. you cant feel yourself push at all if the medicine is dripping. im only 18 and im scared also, but im going to tell them to lay off the drip towards the end, that way i can feel myself push the baby out, because sometimes when you cant feel anything, your baby gets "stuck" and they have to use forceps or do an emergency c section. you can start asking for the epidual when the pain gets intense but you have to know what you want. it also depends on when your baby decided to come. i know alot of girls that couldnt get to the hospital in time to even get medicine. good luck and i hope everything goes well. you can also request a c-section and then you dont feel anything at all and you dont have to do any work.

With my epidural you dont feel the pain you just feel the pressure. Don't want to scare you away from an epidural but during my experience the doctor said to let him know when i felt i sharp pain down either of my legs which lets them know they have stuck it in too far and it was a very sharp pain and i cried a lil bit but after that i was in no pain and you cant walk after giving birth until some hours later. So i would recommend it if you dont want to feel labor pain!
