When should I pick out a pediatrician? I would like (if I'm having a boy) for the circumcision to be done before we leave the hospital, and so I'd like to get one before the baby is born. How soon is to soon though? and should I go in and meeting the doctor beforehand... I mean, considering there wont even really be a little patient yet? It seems like I probably should so that he just doesn't show up at the hospital and start looking at my baby before I've met him.

I was just wondering how all of you handled this. I personally was going to call tomorrow and see if I could get an "introduction" appointment with the one perspective doctor I had in mind - just so that it's out of the way and he's aware that I'd like him to be there shortly after the baby is born. Is that how it's supposed to work or what?

Yes many doctors will schedule an appointment to just meet the parents and give information and answer any questions you might have.. I already knew which doctor I wanted to use before hand but meeting them would make things more comfortable when the doctor comes in to give you the report on how your little one was doing!

I had no clue who to pick for a pediatrician and my ob actually recommended one prior to my delivery. It worked out really well for me because I really like my daughter's pediatrician but if I were in the situation all over again, I would have probably looked around a bit prior to delivery.

Well for me, I live in australia and here the hospitals dont actually do the curcumcision, you have to see a private doctor after the birth ( as soon as possible ) by there recomendations.

And because there is only 2 doctors, a male and female that do the procedure i rang up both surguries to get procedure, price etc. Because i was intending on coming in beforehand for a consultation, but the receptionist told me it wasnt needed. That is of course if the only reason i was going into the doctors surgery for the circumcision, as the hospital provides me with after care for myself and the baby after the birth.

Maybe you should ring the prospective doctors surgury you intend on taking him/her and see there practises and procedures..its differnt everywhere. :)
