HI MY NAME IS CAROL AND I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH PCOS. PCOS IS A COMMON CAUSE OF OVULATION DISORDERS IN WOMEN. I DIDNT KNOW I HAD THIS UNTIL MY HUSBAND AND I WERE TRYING TO GET PREGNANT. BACK IN APRIL MY PERIOD HAD STOP. MY LAST PERIOD WAS APRIL 22. AND THEN ON IT STOPPED. HAVING HIGH HOPES THAT WE WERE PREGNANT WE TOOK PREGNANCY TESTS AFTER PREGNANCY TEST. AND THEY ALL CAME OUT NEGATIVE. SO I WENT TO THE DOCTORS AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THAT I WASNT PREGNANT. TO MY SUPRISE STILL. I KNEW SOMETHING HAD TO BE WRONG WITH ME. SO I WENT TO ANOTHER DOCTOR. AND IT WAS THERE HE DIAGNOSED ME WITH PCOS.

THE SYMPTOMS
infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding
infertility or inability to get pregnant because of not ovulating
increased growth of hair on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes
acne, oily skin, or dandruff
pelvic pain
weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist
type 2 diabetes
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
male-pattern baldness or thinning hair
patches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs
skin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area
sleep apnea―excessive snoring and breathing stops at times while asleep

NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT I HAVE I CAN GET TREATMENTS AND AND SOON I WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE A NORMAL MENSTRUAL CYCLE AND GET PREGNANT.

I too think I have this. I have most of the symtoms. Anyway when I was trying to concieve my last, I had no periods for 3 years. I finally took herbal supplements, after reading they can help regulate the menstural cycle. I took it for 3 months and finally had a period, 3 months after that I concieved my son. He is 3 now and I am now trying again. I actually have periods now but they range from 40 days to even 45 days. The last 2 were 38 days, so who knows when or if I ovulate. I guess I will find out though. Hope is not lost for those with PCOS I have done lots of research on this and all though there is not a cure, there are sucessful ways to treat it in order to concieve. Do you have the insulin resistant problem. I think I do, and probably should see my Dr. I have a lot of weakness and sometimes blurred vision if I don't eat for a while. Anyway I have heard good things about taking Metomorfin(sp?) to help regulate blood sugars and this helps to concieve.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and had no idea I had it. I was trying to have a baby for two years before I decided to check myself out. Once I was told I had PCOS my dr. prescribed me clomid and in two months I finally got pregnant. Everything is fine so far with the baby and I'm due on August 11th.

Hi. I got married when I was 15 and we had our daughter when I was 16. After she was born I had 2 miscarriages. When I was 19 my periods just stopped out of the blue. I then began seeing doctors and they just put me on progesterone to make me shed the lining of my uterus every month. This was not solving my problem. They had said they thought I had PCOS and had found the cysts on my ovaries. Then in 2004 I went to another doctor and he did a little more checking into this. This doctor found a complex cyst on one ovary and several smaller polyscystic cysts on the other. He then performed surgery and removed the larger cyst and drained the smaller polycystic cysts. He also did something called a wedge resection. This is where they cut out pieces of the ovaries that are bad. After this I got pregnant a few months later but the fetus had dies in my uterus so I then had a DNC. A few months later I am pregnant again and now due any day now. Wedge resections were performed years ago and if he would not have done this I would not be having this baby right now. You need to find a good doctor and feel like they will do everything to help you. He also did a test to check my adrenal level to see if my adrenal gland was elevated. It was elevated and I have not had it checked again. He said if the surgery did not work we would look more into that. I am now 26 and I do have some of the PCOS symptoms and have had for a few years now. You may want to see an endocrinologist as well. You may want to get the adrenal checked also. It has taken me 9 years to have another child and it was well worht the wait. But I think back about the doctors who just put me on progesterone and wonder why they could do nothing more when I went to this new doctor and it took him less than 2 months to help me. I do not know if this helps but thought I would share my experience. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you :)
