Ok.... big babies run in my family... my mom had my brother who weighed 10lbs and 12oz, and her twin sister had a baby who weighed 10lbs and 7oz both the first babies!!! This is my first baby, and I know there is no way I could have a 10 lb baby naturally, b/c both of them had c-section's!! My doctor told me that she would watch that, and not let me have a big baby, but she hasn't done anything differently.... I mean shouldn't she be doing like more ultra sounds or something, to make sure the baby is not getting to big? I mean, she told me at 33 weeks the baby weighed 5lbs and 2 oz(and last ultrasound).... and I still had 7 weeks left...Now I'm at 36 weeks and was just wondering if I should be concerned?

My younger brother was almost 11 lbs and two weeks early. My ex was a 10 lb baby. My first ended up being only 8lbs 8 oz. but i was also 3 wks over. So baby size doesn't necessarily depend on just the big babies in the family. I wouldn't worry your ob should be able to tell if the baby is getting to large by your measurements and when they examine your belly.

I'm sure 10lb+ babies have been born via the natural route before, so I wouldn't be deathly concerned, but yes... when they take the tape measure to your tummy at your visits, that's one way of telling if your baby is "too" big. If it continues to bother you, I'd speak to your doctor and let her know you are quite concerned about it, if she shrugs you off because she thinks you're just overreacting, badger everyone in that practice until you get someone that will give you an answer, even if it's the receptionist, get the answer you need. A worried mommy puts stress on a baby, and that could be worse than having a large baby.

With my first pregnancy my doctor told me that the baby weighed 9lbs without even doing an ultrasound like a week before he induced me. I guess he's just done it long enough he knew just by my measurements, etc. When I finally did have my daughter she weighed 9lbs 4 ozs so he was almost exactly right.

Even with an ultrasound they are only guessing at what the baby is going to weigh. I have a feeling your doctor is just watching how your uterus is growing. If your uterus is feeling bigger then where you are in your pregnancy she will most likely do an ultrasound for a better idea of measurement.

With my first baby I measure about a month further along then where they said I was (my son was 8 pounds 10 ounce and 20 1/2 inches long). He was pretty packed in there and did end up having a c-section.

With my second I am currantly measure 1 week further along then where I should be, but my last appointment my doctor said, "16 weeks is close enough to 15 weeks." I'm going in for a planned c-section so I'm not to concerned as to the babies size.

My last baby that I had he was 9lbs 2oz and I was measuring a little over. That is a week over due. Now with this baby at my last Dr's appointment I measured 42 cm and I am only 30 weeks. So my dr sent me for an ultra sound and at the ultra sound she said my baby was only about 3 1/2 pounds and she said that is around normal size. I think it all depends on you. I wouldn't be to worried about it. If you are really worried talk to your dr.
