Good question, when you find out let me know. Cause I'm just as confused, Mys sister says that you cant feel dilation, but it happens with contrations. So I'm not sure that would be nice to know.

It is very confusing and you are right... the best way I can explain this is... the pain you feel is contractions... which yes make you dialate. But every woman is different some take a long time to dialate some do not. Usually the ones that have a really short labor do not find it as unbearable as the one who stays in labor 20 hours. Some women just take pain a little better than others... It is all a personal experience. As far as actually feeling yourself stretch down there... I didnt feel it... I was feeling the contractions in my back and my stomach more than anything.... It is kind of like this... imagine you have a paper cut but then you decide to pinch your ear.... what happens you dont feel the pain from your paper cut you only feel your ear hurting from the pinching! It is the same thing here maybe the women saying the dialation is the worst just happen to feel that pain over the contractions... just my opinion im no doctor.
