I just wanted to thank y'all for being so great during my pregnancy. I have made so many friends on here, and am looking forward to you guys having your special little bundles. I'll still be on here, especially during my break from school.

I thought I'd share a bit about my birthing experience. I woke up at 5am on Thursday w/ some bloody show and contractions. They began to get stronger and come every 5 min. or so, and I was still bleeding so I called my dr. at 8 am and had an appt at 9:30. I was 90% effaced and 4 cm dilated, so she decided to delvier thaty day. I was checked into the hospital at 12:15 and my water was broke around 1p.m. The contractions still didn't hurt very bad, so I was happy, but my nurse was a big B**CH at wanted to start me on pitocin, but I told her I wanted to wait and she called my dr...she was a bigbully!! Anyways at 2:30 I was induced and it still wasn't hurting very bad, but make a long story short, I was pressured into an epidural, even though the outcome was wonderful. By 7p.m I was only at 7 cm, and my dr. was getting discouraged b/c my contractions were frequent but not very strong. She was at a station 0 and I was 100% effaced. My dr. came back at 9 and miraculously I was at 9cm. and knew for sure that I wasn't going to need a C-section. 10 min after she left, I felt immense pressure in my vagina and rectal area. We called the nurse, and Harper's head had descended at it was time to call the dr. and start pushing. After 15, min of pushing, little Harper made her grand entrance. It didn't hurt bad at all, and I tore just a little....I felt fine afterwards excpet for the bleeding. It was so much easier than I expected, and I thank God for the experience...sorry that it was so long!

congrats, so i have a question what exactly do we need to take to the hospital?

Name: mother2five | Date: Dec 17th, 2006 9:15 PM
sterlids.....I have learned that most ppl take more than they actually use I always have this time I am going to try and take only what I will actualy use:
for labor:
*gum (for my husband, he chews and thats the last thing I want to smell while in pain)
*change for my husband to eat from the vending machine
*I have 2 really great massagers that I love one for my head and the other for my back (whatever will help you relax, some ppl like music or their hair brushed, or activities or reading to stay busy ect.)

After the baby has arrived:
*camera with extra batteries and lots of film or an extra memory card
*camcorder
*my own gown & slippers, bra, breast pads
*p.j's for the baby (not nessary, they provide these I just want my own)
*my baby book for footprints
*list of ppl to call w/ phone #'s
*you are going to want to clean up eventually so any toiletries you use on an everyday basis (you should bring lotions and soaps that will be sensitive to baby's new skin and omit the perfume)
Going home:
*carseat
*baby blanket
*baby outfit, socks, hat,
*outfit for yourself

DON'T FORGET TO PACK FOR DAD AS WELL IF HE'S STAYING
I'm sure I forgot some stuff that was jsut a quick run through, you can look at alot of baby sites online and it will give you a complete list which you may want to add or omit some things, pretty much just what you think you will need. The hospital provides things like pads, diapers, formula if you choose, meds for you and baby, wipes, burp rags, receiving blankies, p.j's for baby, your meals, so you don't need to bring your own, it will be added to your bill anyways so you may as well use theirs!

That sounds like it was wonderful Kristy! Now let's hope we all get so lucky! I didn't tell you this before - but because you were set on going natural (and I was on the fence) I decided to see what happened with you. It sounds like it probably made the whole thing more enjoyable, and I think I'm going for the epidural as well.

How's recovery going? Is there a lot of bleeding or any pain still? You look good!

Does it feel different that you're a true blue certified MOMMY now?

So glad you enjoyed your experience. Other than how long it took you, it sounds very similar to my own experience. And yes, the bleeding sucks!!

Again, congratulations. I'm sure you're a wonderful mother!

yeah kristy!!! I am so glad that it went well for you. I really don't understand dr's who get so anxious about how women progress I mean you went to 7 in 7 hours that is no that bad. I was in labor from start to finish for about 14 or 15 hours so I think that your time range is very normal. Are you glad that you had the epidural even though you felt pressured? Well I hope that everyone else has such a good experience.

Hey mommy kristy :) (Hopefully you'll see this soon), I'm still curious since I'm planning on natural birth but can only do it in a hospital since my insurance will cover only for that. I'm also planning on hiring a doula. I do not want to be pressured into taking the epidural!!!

How is little baby Harper doing? You must be super busy at this time, Hopefully happy as well :) :) :)

Hello vm2b and everyone,
I'm doing very well except that I got sick from my hospital stay and now I have a bad chest cold and I hurt my back even more form all the pushing, but it was totally worth it! Harper is an incredibly good baby girl...we've been getting plenty of sleep and my mom is here for another week and a half.

Many times when you give birth in a hospital, dr.s and nurses want to get it over with as quickly as possible so they try to pump you full of drugs. My nurse did not want to let me wait and see if my contractions would get stronger on their own. She wanted to start me on a Pitocin drip right away. She also wanted me to get an epidural b/c supposedly the anasthesiologist was going to be in surgery for a few hours, so as she said it was "Now or never"..She kept trying to scare me into getting one...she said that childbirth is so painful w/out an epidural and that I'm definitely going to need one. It was ultimitely my decision though, and the outcome was fine. Just make sure to stick to what you believe in unless there is a medical necessity to do otherwise.

How is everyone doing?? I miss you guys.

How is the breastfeeding going so far?

I am doing great, my belly is growing even faster, I am28 weeks now, and in the final stretch, which is so wierd time is going by fast.

This might be a weird questions, but does she feel like yours, or are saying when is someone picking her up?
It must be so surreal.

Breastfeeding is going pretty well, but she still won't latch on to my nipple w/ my nipple shield on. It's a product that Medela makes to help babies latch on. My milk "let down" 2 days ago, but I still have to supplement w/ a little formula once per day. The nursing really helps me bond w/ Harper b/c its like once I pushed her out I was scared to look at her for the 1st time b/c that would make it real. The whole pregnancy Harper was just an idea and now she is here, and I was terrified. It's still surreal for me, and from what I hear the first month or so is like a dream. I can't wait until she gets a little older and starts developing a personality and such.

I am glad to hear that things are going well for you guys. I am sure that she will get the hang of latching on to just the nipple keep trying. Does it hurt though? I really want to breast feed and I am willing to stick it out through the pain, but I have heard some scary stories. It is good that you are still gettting some good rest. I am so nervous about bringing home a baby. I know I already did it once, but that seems like a lifetime ago. Keep us updated girlie :) ((((hugs to you and harper))))
