I just looked down on my leg tonight and saw this purple squiggly vein jutting out of my thigh. Well, I'm familiar with what it could be spider veins/vericose veins but I didn't know what kind this was till I did a yahoo image search. ((Off topic but if you want to see some nasty pics of vericose veins do an image search on yahoo)). ANYWAYS, My question is has anyone got these during pregnancy and (please say yes) do they go away?? I only have 1 but I don't want anymore and I want this one to go away. My body is going to shit and now I'm depressed. What a way to end the day.....

By the way, I didn't think I made this clear in the post..... my vericose vein is not as extreme as the pics on yahoo in case you do decide to check them out. LOL.

When I was pregnant with my son I got a few around my hip area, 1 on both sides....Unfortunately they don't go away by themselve. You can have them removed though.

I got one spider vein with my second daughter, right where you would picture a necklace sitting (neck/throat area) Now I have 2 more in the same area. i would give anything to get them removed. It cost a couple grand though. I heard it was from straining during pregnancy and labor.

viens do not return to form when stretched so if they are there they will stay there. When too much blood pools in one area for to long the vein enlarges to accomidate and when the blood leaves that vein is stuck being stretched. It happens due to poor circulation in the lower extermities which is common during pregnancy. If you want to prevent more you can have you dr write and RX for Jobst compression stockings 20-30mmhg either knee hight or thigh high. It will prevent and edema in you legs and keep the blood flowing.

That is informative Jill, thanks... but how do you prevent spider viens? in your neck? Its no like I strain my neck! I am lost.

I don't know the answer to that one, but I will try very hard to find out. By spider veins you mean those little tiny dark squigglies not the big raised nasties like the v vains right? I do know that you can get then when you blood pressure is too high, or straining (like when going #2) it is because those are the smallest veins and the only have one layer ( some have 2 and the ones cloest tho you heart have 3) since they can't handle pressure as well as the others they will stretch, but since they are much much smaller they don't look as nasty or they burst. Let me look and see how to prevent them though. I'll be back

Ok not much luck with how to help in the neck and face area. If you had then in the legs you could get the compression stockings, bit there is really no way to help in those areas. You can try to get more excerise and that will promote healthy circulation. get you bp checked. Mostly it is genetic though. sorry I wish I could have been more of a help

The older we get the harder we have to work at remaining beautiful! More make-up is needed, keeping weight off becomes more of a struggle, little things start to appear on our skin like age spots, veicose veins, even ugly skin tags! And more moles, and stretch marks and cellulite. Oh and our boobs start sagging and bellies start dropping over waistlines. Then you look in the mirror one day and see fat rolls in places you had no idea could develope there! It's astonishing! Basically if you're in shape now ,be thankful and watch what you eat and exercise daily. If you are starting to notice your pants are getting tight get active and lose the weight. Whatever you do ,DO NOT trade in your jeans for stretch pants and sweats!!!!! That's what I did and I'm living to regret it!!!!!
