Ok for those of you planning to bottle feed, what types of bottles are you using? I know dumb question but I personally like the good old fashioned gerber bottles but Jay is dead set on using playtex premium. I am trying to back off and let him make choices too even though this is my third and his first so I insist i know what I am talking about... anyway I need to just shut up and let him do what he wants to do!!! So what are you gals using?

Well this is my first, so I'm new to the whole bottle thing, so I'm not going to try to throw my advice out there about which is better since I have no idea. But does he have any good basis for wanting to use the playtex premiums? Was it just because he saw a cool commercial for them or something? If he doesn't have any valid points, then you need to lay your reasons out there so he can see that you know what you're talking about. Otherwise, try to work him into other decisions so he can feel likes he's contributing.

well I bottle fed my son and I started off just using regular bottles, but then he was gassy and fussy all the time. I changed to those bottles that have the blastic bag. they made a huge difference. I am going to breast feed hopefully, but there will be times when the baby will need a bottle so I will prob use the bag ones.

I used them with my first and I loved them, also being able to squeeze the air out the bag was great for perventing gas.

You want to aim for bottles with wide necks and teats that mimic the natural shape of the breast. They may look big, but the baby will suck in less air. Don't just go for looks or what looks trendy.

A wide necked bottle is easier to fill as well!

I'm from the UK so I don't know what brands you have over there. Avent are very popular over here though.

See hose are all his points too. With my first I used the playtex and ended up hating the fuss of the bags so I switched to gerber... with my secondshe was very colicy so I tried every bottle and it didnt matter which she was still just as fussy. So in my eyes I am looking at it as hmmm less expensive and less fuss for normal bottles but he is looking at it as less air... maybe it really does work for some babies I just know it didn work for Kenzie.... what the heck why not try them right!

Maybe just try them both. Then if the less expensive ones work for your new baby then he'll be able to see that and you can save money. Otherwise, if the ones with the bags work better, then you'll just have to spend more money. But try them both first that way you know for a fact that you can justify the extra fuss and money. And don't let him gloat if his choice wins out...

ok, i hope this helps. i breastfed chistian for 7 months. but then i had to stop b/c my hair started falling out and i kept losing too much weight. i felt unhealthy too. but, as for the bottles, i began to use advent. everything i had was advent. even my breastpump. christian never got gas where he couldn't be burped to resolve it, never had colic or anything. and then when the time was right, we switched to the advent training cups. the now make some advent bottles with the disp. bag. but i always thought they were alot of trouble. advent is the best!!! (to me at least) and i will continue to use them with my next baby (if i have to switch to bottle-feeding again). good luck!

I've heard from multiple people that Dr. Browns is the best. I plan on using that if I can't breastfeed

Thanks for all your help girls. If the baby has no preference since she obviously comes first... I will go with Playtex after all it is Jays first and I want him to feel like he can make decisions too.

At first i was going to go with the Dr Browns, but it got to many bad revews on babiesrus. The i checked out the platex premiums on there and it got 4 out of 5 stars so i think i will go with those

I am currently breastfeeding, but am going back to work next Wednesday (yuck!), so we've tried to implement a couple bottles here and there over the last month or so. I tried the Avent, and he seems to like the rubber nipple better than the silicone, but he won't always take that bottle. So today I tried the Playtex and it was a lot easier to feed him. His first full day of Daycare is tomorro, so I am going to bring both types and let her decide which he takes better. I might try the Dr. Brown's over the weekend since I got a couple of those as a baby shower gift. Good luck!

This is my first baby, but I work in a daycare infant room, so I've seen my fair share of bottles! I agree with all the people that say Avent is great -- we have 2 babies who use them and I really like them -- they have wide necks so they are sooo easy to fill. This especially comes in handy when trying to transfer breast milk from the pump bag into the bottle -- way less spills. I'm not sure which the Playtex premiums are, but I do not care for Playtex VentAire -- the bottoms come unscrewed and they drip and leak really bad. Plus once the baby's older and can feed him/herself, if they throw the bottle, it basically just explodes! The gerber ones are pretty good, too. I had one parent use Dr. Browns for about a week, and she said she hated them -- this is one of the parents that uses avent now. Hope this helps, and I'll answer any other questions I can based on what I've seen and heard from the daycare moms.
Personally, I plan on trying to breastfeed, but if I can't, or just need bottles sometimes, I plan on using Avent.

Anyone have experience with "The First Years Soothie" bottles--they have a green nipple (like the soothie pacifer that is suppose to be great too)? or "Sassy MAM" bottles? I've never used these--but I've read good reviews on the them both....those were ones I wanted to try. I used the platex bottles with the liners with Kenzi---and never tried anything else---looking back on it, she was quite a fussy baby and I used the gas drops on her a lot, I wish I tried using different bottles instead of using the drops sooo much. Plus they really were not very easy to use and she usually had lots of milk running down her chin.....

I was using just the Avent bottles to feed, but i've switched to the Playtex premium...the curved ones. Thoes agree much better, the flow is less and she doesn't choke and spit up as much. But I think it's up to personal preference and what you're baby likes.

I used the platex ones with the nipples that we're much like a breast... they had drop in liners, makes it easier when you have to steralize, least it's only the nipples and not the whole bottle.
