i had my 38 week appt today and i chickened out of the vaginal exam. it's just, the doctor i had my appt with is russian (no offense to russians or anything) and she's just a bit rough. when she gave me my first vaginal exam two weeks ago, she knocked the effing wind out of me. i figured there's no real point in having it done anyway. i mean, if i'm 3 cm dialated, i still leave pregnant and if i'm not dialated at all, i still leave pregnant. so why set myself up for the disappointment, right?

Well when you get checked it helps thin your cervix thats the only reason i had it done everytime i went lol but if she hurt you ask for someone else

lol i felt that way and they even told I could do a Opt-Induction the Saturday after my 39weeks appointment then I went in for my 39weeks appointment and they said they had to many inductions that day so they couldnt. So I asked her to strip my membranes and I went in at 2am that Saturday which was the day they told me they had to many inductions lol

Ask if you can have a Opt-Induction at 39weeks. They may allow it like my midwife did

i dont think i'm dialated any though because i've only had maybe 3 hours worth of braxton hicks contractions on new years day and then from then its only been 3 or less a day. and braxton hicks dont affect your cervix anyway right? so i probably wouldnt be able to have my membranes swept anyway. i just have a gut feeling that i'm going to be induced and have a c section. i just wish they could cut her out now lol

Sometimes Braxton hicks do dialate your cervix and sometimes your cervix just thins on its own. Withmy first I didnt know I was 3cm because I had no braxton hicks at all but once I reached 4cm omg I knew I was dialatin

ugh maybe i'll have a stinkin exam done next time then. i just want her out of me so i can start to heal. my stomach is so big that some of my stretch marks are now open, bleeding sores. so not only am i going to have permanent stretchmarks but i'm going to have scars along with them.

ugh thats horrible. asked them to induce you and get the epidural asap if your gonna get it

she asked me today if i was going to go natural or epidural and i said epidural. i want to try and get to 5 cm on my own without it though considering that being tied to a bed tends to slow the labor process lol :]]. this is how i picture my labor/delivery: i show up for my scheduled induction. i go through hours and hours and millions of bags of pitocin with minimal/no progress and they just decide to c section me.

despite being miserable and sore, i refuse to drink castor oil or anything like that. i have been walking some though and the sex thing is out of the question. but man oh man, i just want some sort of sign that it's going to be over soon

May soundweird but if you or your hubby can rub your cervix it will help thin it. My midwife said that, sex, rasberry leaf tea, and walkin is all she reccomends

hmm, "hey babe, i'll pass on that foot massage but do you want to rub my cervix some!?!?"

i'm on the verge of just laying on my stomach on the tile floor to make my water break lol JUST KIDDING

Why do you have a vaginal exam?? Are in you Australia? Iam and our docotor wont touch anywere near your cervix till your due date.. they dont want to bring anything on.. At 37 weeks we have a swab for strep b but thats it..

no lana, i'm not in australia. and to be honest, i asked my mom the same question about the vaginal exams. i dont see the point. like i said earlier, if they find that i'm not dialated at all, i still leave their office pregnant. and if they find me to be 3 cm dialated, again, i STILL leave their office pregnant. i mean, i dont see the point of checking dialation unless you're in labor.

There is NO way you need to consent to a vaginal exam until you think that you're in labour. Be careful that this woman doesn't try to strip your membranes as this can be very painful if the doctor is rough - I had this done to me. If you absolutely have to have an internal then make sure that you tell her NOT to strip your membranes!

I know here in the US(most places) after 38weeks the do vaginal exams when you come in to feel the position and all that. I myself had my membranes stripped and it did nothurt. I even asked when she was gonna do it and she said she had already did. But everyone has diff experiences. Do what you feel is comfortable and thats all that matters

The doctor that did mine was like a goddam vet! He was VERY rough. I made a complaint after the birth and the midwife did admit that I hadn't been the first to complain about his treatment.
I don't know why they have to strip membranes. Babies come in their own time. If you're very overdue, then fair enough, but it's best to let things take their course naturally. If I'd been left to it I don't think that my membranes would have ruptured prematurely.

He was SO rough that he probably damaged them. I've read up on the subject since and this can happen.

I was 3 cm dilated and had contractions that were 5 min apart and my dr. decided to induce me that same day...I was 39+3 but she would have done the same at 38...if you're effaced enough they'll do it at 3cm

i dont want ANY interventions (medical or 'natural') until i am overdue. i'm not willing to put my child's life at risk because i'm anxious and uncomfortable. this includes sweeping of the membranes, stretching the cervix, etc.
