My husband works for the Ministry of Forests, on an Initial Attack Crew (fighting forest fires). He's been doing that for about 11 years...The pay is awesome, but he can't stand working there anymore cause all the politics that get in the way of everything. So the last few years, he got his Diploma in Gemology, and has been learning to make a bit of jewellery with my dad (my dad is a goldsmith). In the last year, James continues to work for the Ministry because I'm pregnant again and we need the money, but in his off time he's been working his ass off to start up his own business in dealing with mineral specimens and gemstones, and is part owner in an Opal mine here. It's been a really slow start and we were starting to get discouraged. Then all of a sudden....people are phoning him left right and center wanting opals, wanting cabs, wanting everything. I think it's a sign that everything is going to be ok, but he thinks it's just cause of the holiday season and people are buying gifts. what do you think? i like to be positive, but we need to be realistic too. Am I being a retard???? ↓

| I really do beleive things happen for a reason. Maybe it is because of the holidays but what if it isn't. just enjoy it while you got it and enjoy the holidays then see what happens and be thanks full. GOOD LUCK!! ↑ |

| Bmes, my husband and I are self employed as well, we have been doing it a little over a year now, so we are still learning here and there, but the one thing I learned in the begining, is that with any business there is always going to be an off season where your business tends to struggle a bit, you just have to be creative with it and look at other options as well. I think the fact that it is picking up is a very good sign, nothing is better than word of mouth, try having some sort of pamphlet or brochure made and give them out with each purchase so that they may show their friends and family. That has definatley worked for us because this time last year I was pulling my hair out ready to sell our business as we were supporting it with our personal funds and this year from getting the word out we have tripled our income for this month compared to last years. Avertise, advertise, advertise, esspecially if you are planning on making this your main source of income. We are fortunate this is a business I can handle on my own so my husband is also employed elsewhere. Good luck with it all it sounds like loads of fun, you can get jewlrey anytime you want!!!!! ↑ |

| thanks. the crappy thing is, he's trying to find an out from the fire fighting thing. He hates working there, but he can't leave cause of the money thing, but if he doesn't quit, he can't solely focus on his own business, which will never get off the ground if he doesn't. See, he can't commit to anything in the summer, cause he's hardly around with the all the fires everywhere, so what kind of business is going to want to do business with him if he's only available for half of the year? and if he quits the ministry, and does his own thing and it doesn't work out, we're really screwed!! aararrrggg...it's so frustrating! ↑ |

ha ha ha....jewellery whenever i want??? that's a joke....whenever i want something made I'm the last person who gets waited on. Cause I'm family they don't look at me as a customer. they think..oh she can wait. After we got married, I wanted my rings soldered together so they weren't rubbing...you don't wanna know how long I had to wait for that. and it was a 10 minute job....LOL....i bought some nice tanzanite about 3 years ago...i've yet to see them set into the earrings i've been wanting...you'd think I'd have lots of jewellery...but it's totally the opposite!! LOL ↑ |

| ha ha ha....if that worked i would have had them 3 years ago. believe me i've tried.... it's always...i just gotta finish up this clients ring or i got soooo many repairs i need to get done. I even tried slipping the stones into another customers job bag hoping he would do them and I could just scoop em when they were done, but nooooo..he's too smart for that!! damn the man!! ! ↑ |
