What do you use to wipe (when you go to the bathroom) after you have a baby? I can imagine toilet paper wouldnt be a good idea, espesially if you get stitches. Do you use baby wipes, or is there some special thing you're supposed to use?

I was given a bottle to use. It a small clear bottle with holes on top that I had to use after going to the bathroom. This warm water helps clean off any blood until they give you permission to take a shower. Once I was done with that I took some toliet paper and just patted myself dry.

What kind of botttle... I mean is it like those turkey baster looking things that they give you to spray water, or does it more resemble a douche thing?? lol. Thats the best way I can think of to describe those things.. lol I have no idea what they're called lol

Depends on how you have your baby..If vaginally then probably right away. If you had a c-section you'll be able to take a shower as soon as they unhook your IVs and remove the cathader. Also if you had a c-section they will not allow you to take a shower until you can stand up without help

Do they let you get up to use the bathroom after having an epidural (if you're having the baby naturally), or do you get to use those lovely bedpans?

stupid question i know.. but why do u have to have a cathader? incase u pee while in surgery or something? why cant they just make u go toilet before the c section ? i mean.. it only takes about 10 mins to get the baby out right?

I personally may end up requesting a catheder if I am going to need to use those bedpans... I can't see myself being able to aim well enough to even make it in there.

O gosh no on the catheter that sounds like UTI coming up!!!

You have to have a cathader because when you have a c-section you are numbed from the chest down.

I know there are different types of epidural - walking and non walking ones. It just makes me wonder if that means you cant get up at all because I swear I have never used a bedpan and I know I would make a mess (eww I know)

To add to the original question though. Would baby wipes be better than toilet paper? I mean they couldnt hurt right? or could they?

A walking epidural is a smaller dose of pain medication in which only the abdominal nerves are numb. Where as the non-walking ones uses more and numbs everything from your abdomin to your chest including your legs.

If you want to use baby wipes i would recommend the unscented kind. If you end up having a vaginal birth and end up tearing or they cut you you're not going to want to wipe with anything.

So I guess I should invest in a good turkey baster lol. I remember my granny having surgery to remove a tumor from her butt cheek (kinda funny place to have one but anyway) and they gave her literally what looked like a turkey baster to clean herself with instead of toilet paper.

i was told to pat yourself dry not really wipe just pat

lol...what i recieved was a skinny bottles that was about an inch wide and about 5 inches tall. In the top was like 6 little holes. Nothing like a turkey baster. I actually asked for two because I brought one home (the one that I didn't use) and use it to wash my kids hair with it.

yeah you don't want to wipe like you normally do

if you're induced they usually tell you not to eat or drink anything after a certain point and will do a straight cath to drain whatever is in your bladder. natural labor u get a cathedor once u get the epidural usually b.c ur not gonna be able to walk.
