Hey as most of you know Brooke was hospitalized for bronchiolitis last week. Well she got better, but as of Sunday she is sick again. She is wheezing again, coughing again, appettite decreasing. It is all happening over again. We have an appointment with the doctor on Friday to see how she is doing. She still hasn't gained back the weight she lost while she was sick, though she is chunky she can't lose more weight. I am so conflicted because I don't know what to do. She has had this sickness for 19 days and this is the 2nd time she has got in in 3 months. Last time it lasted 3 weeks but it wasn't this advanced. Should I find a specialist is there a child respritory specialist? Am I doing something wrong? I am just so worried for my baby! I don't want her to end up in the hospital again those 3 days were so difficult! Just help please! Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you all!

If she gets worse before friday I would definately take her to the hospital again. Did they give her any meds?

Ya I would take her just to be on the safe side. Just to prevent anything major from happening. They might just give you higher antibiotic's.

Nikkis as you already know, this sickness is very dangerous for Brook, and should be taken very seriously, if your that concerned about her don't wait til friday to have her seen....demand a sooner appt. or take her elsewhere, def. bring up your concerns and all questions w/ your dr. don't be affraid to ask if she needs to see a specialist ad if your not satisfied w/ his answers call a local childrens hospital and speak w/ the phone nurse.....you can still speak w/ one even if you don't have one in your area, explain to them just as you did here, those nurses are kick ass and know their stuff, she will be able to put your mind at ease or steer you in the right direction. Please let us know what you find out, and we're all here for you and I hope Brook gets better very soon. BIG HUGS HUN!!!!

Have you continued to give her the breathing treatments? I know I stopped premature with my daughter one time when I thought she was getting better and she got worse. My daughter has been in the hospital for pneumonia 4 times since she has been born and she will be one in a couple of weeks. Its hard to see them in the hospital and its hearbreaking, my daughter never slept at all in the hospital and the last time she was there for 4 days. Does you daughter have alergies?

Oh Nikki, I am so sorry that Brooke is sick again. I would definitely take her into the doctor asap and have them check her out again. There are pediatric respiratory specialists, you may need a referral from your pediatrician to take her, but it's worth looking into. Do you have pets or is she around pets at all? Maybe she has allergies that is causing this?? You should push for the doctors to do blood work if they haven't already to check for all kinds of things to rule everything out that could be causing her to get so severely sick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she gets better and doesn't have to be in the hospital again.

Sorry to hear Brooke is getting sick again. Hopefully on Friday you can get more answers. I would def ask the doctor if she needs to see a specailist if doesn't suggest it first.

You are not doing anything wrong Niki! Please don't think that way!

I have not knowledge of Bronchiolitis, but since it has something to do with the lungs maybe its the air around her?

Do you have a humdifer? Is is clean out? Any new scents in the house that might be the "trigger"?

Any somkers in the house?

Are are toys being cleaned everyday? Because she might have picked it up again from a toy that wasn't sterile???

Well I took her tothe doctor this morning because she woke up with a fever and was sounding worse.

The doctor did an allergy panel on here that if positive could point us in some direction. If it is negative it doesn't mean she doesn't have allergies as the test is very inconclusive at this age. They also did a chest x-ray and confirmed that it is bronchiolitis again or still. The doc prescribed an antibiotic and said if she worsens in the next 24-48 hours then she will refer her to a lung specialist.

She is on breathing treatments I have not stopped giving them to her, I give them 3 times a day. She also is nt around any smokers.

Anyway thank you all for the advice. Jenifer I may call the Children's hospital, that is really great advice, I didn't know you could do that. Anyway if she isn't improving soon we will go see another doctor or a specialist.

What breathing treatment meds is she on. My daughter is on Zopenex and Albuterol and has been on this forever. I am scared to quit giving it to her because the moment I do she gets sick. I hope she grows out of it soon.

Well I hope Brook gets better and I hope the Dr. can get down to the bottom of why Brook keeps getting sick.

nikki, i'm so sorry that brooke is going though all of this. i just had emma to the doctor again where she has had a reaccuring cough all winter. at first he put her on allergy meds and the cough went away. so he said to stop giving her the meds and if the cough came back we would know that it was allergies. if i didn't come back that meant it was just a little cough and she was over it....well she was off the meds a couple weeks and the cough came back. i called the doc and he put her back on the meds but i also have to take her to a lung specialist and get her checked out just to be on the safe side. i'm not exactly sure what all they are going to do. i know the nurse said something about a breathing test but i dunno....but anyways, i know how hard this is with emma and she is almost 4yrs old, i can't even imagine what you are going through with brooke being only a baby! i hope you get something figured out and she gets better soon!

Kyra, Brooke is on Albuterol and Pulmicort right now. She has been on xopenox before but it didn't seem to help. I hate giving the breathing treatments, Brooke fights me the whole time.

You are not doing anything wrong. Bronchiolitis, RSV and pneumonia hit Ian's daycare. Two kids were out forever and were hospitalist. They were back for a week and now out again. I would definitely find a speciailist or tell your pediatrician you want a referral if one is needed

Hopefully the medicine she's on will help her feel better soon. I'm glad they ran an allergy test, but like you said the results aren't always accurate, my pediatrician is waiting til Kadin is 5 to test him, but has him on allergy nose spray for now, which helps a little bit. I hope Brooke can kick this and get better soon.

What kind of specialist should I go see? Respriatory specialist or lung specialist or what?

Name: 04nidak | Date: Mar 27th, 2008 9:21 PM
I'd say a pediatric respiratory therapist, they specialize in things like asthma, bronchitis, etc.

Name: DRB | Date: Mar 27th, 2008 9:25 PM
oh nikki i hope you get things figured out! I would say going to a specialist would be the best bet since even going to hospital hasnt made it any better..well it did..but then came back

I hope she gets better and i think you should go see a specialist.

I really need to read on here more often. Im so sorry this is going on with you guys again. poor brooke. i hope things getting better. i personally would go beyond a doctor and go see a resp. specialist. i had to see one when i was in the army for my asthma, i didnt know i had it. it was offset from the weather in missouri and running in it. stupid drill sergeants didnt care so i complained and got an appt and found out that was why. you can call me anytime if you need to talk or just vent or whatever. hope things get better!

Well everyone I have an update. Brooke now has what they are calling progressive pneumonia. They sent her chest x-ray off to the radiologist and this is what they said it was. So what they are doing right now is continuing everything we are already doing and adding a steriod. As well as they gave her a shot of antibiotics to try to help her. I got the referal for the specialist and our appointment is April 14th, that is the soonest we can get in. I am really hoping she starts doing better before then. We will also get the results of the allergy panel sometime next week. So please continue to keep us in your prayers!

Hey Kyra, how old is Sadie? Oddly enough none of the breathing treatments seem to make her hyper, usually after she has one she goes to sleep. I think it is because she fights me so hard while I am giving it to her.

Coartney! I definitely need to take you up on the offer and call you, so we can catch up. I really am starting to think that she does have asthma. My mom went and bought these expensive air filters that are suppose to cut down on the amount of allergens produced. And I am keepng her inside as much as possible.

Nikki, if you really cared about Brookes wellbeing you would move to Canada and let her breathe in the fresh mountain air. Good as new in no time at all.
