They may not have a lab and they may be leaving you a prescription slip to go to the hospital to have it done. That's what my doctor did (I actually just went in today to the hospital for my second blood draw). ↑ |
It is either a lab slip so that when you go to the lab they know why you are their. Or it's a slip you need to take to the hospital in you area to explain what test you are there for. Either way it's just a slip for one of the lab so they know that you need a a pregnancy test done. ↑ |
I went today... You're right -- it was a slip to go to the hospital for my test :) Thanks ↑ |
Alot of doctors won't actually see you until you're a bit further along in the pregnancy, because for one there isn't much to be done in the first trimester. They just confirm your pregnancy with a blood test. At my OB's office you meet with the nurse at 6 weeks to go over your medical history, and to get information on nutrition, vitamins, all that jazz.
Then at 12 weeks I saw the doctor for the first time, and had a full pelvic exam with pap smear (basically the same thing you have done yearly). After that, it's every 4 weeks until week 30. Then it's every 2 weeks until week 36, then it's every week until the darn thing finally ends. (And yes, by week 36 you will be SO ready to be done!)
At first it's a bit frustrating because you feel like 'Great I'm pregnant now! Um, what do you mean I just sit around for six weeks???' But really, unless you are a high risk pregnancy, there's nothing you need to do except be healthy and take care of yourself. ↑ |
