I am going tomorrow for my first Doctor's appt. I took a home test a few weeks ago. I wanted to go for a blood test, but my reg. doctor said they wouldn't do it. I called the OBGYN where my sister went for her baby, but they dont do OB anymore. I finally have found one in my area, but when I said I needed a blood test, they asked where I wanted to go. This is my first pregnancy, I haven't told my family yet, and I don't know anything as far as how this stuff works. I assume the doctor with go through everything with me, but when I asked if I could just come there for the test, they said to stop by Monday and they will leave a slip for me at the front? I'm not sure exactly what they meant. I know I'm going tomorrow and I can speak with them then about everything but I've been waiting so long I just want to know. The longer it is the more anxious I am about it. Can anyone explain what "slip" they mean? I assumed I'd go in and take a blood test there. thanks

They may not have a lab and they may be leaving you a prescription slip to go to the hospital to have it done. That's what my doctor did (I actually just went in today to the hospital for my second blood draw).

It is either a lab slip so that when you go to the lab they know why you are their. Or it's a slip you need to take to the hospital in you area to explain what test you are there for. Either way it's just a slip for one of the lab so they know that you need a a pregnancy test done.

I went today... You're right -- it was a slip to go to the hospital for my test :) Thanks

Alot of doctors won't actually see you until you're a bit further along in the pregnancy, because for one there isn't much to be done in the first trimester. They just confirm your pregnancy with a blood test. At my OB's office you meet with the nurse at 6 weeks to go over your medical history, and to get information on nutrition, vitamins, all that jazz.

Then at 12 weeks I saw the doctor for the first time, and had a full pelvic exam with pap smear (basically the same thing you have done yearly). After that, it's every 4 weeks until week 30. Then it's every 2 weeks until week 36, then it's every week until the darn thing finally ends. (And yes, by week 36 you will be SO ready to be done!)

At first it's a bit frustrating because you feel like 'Great I'm pregnant now! Um, what do you mean I just sit around for six weeks???' But really, unless you are a high risk pregnancy, there's nothing you need to do except be healthy and take care of yourself.
