I am 30 1/2 weeks along and for the past 2 weeks my lower back has been killing me. I know that it's very common during pregnancy, but it's becoming debilitating. I've always had back problems stemming back to when I did gymnastics. When I was 13, I threw out my back and had to do physical therapy and such until I was 16. They could never tell me exactrly what was wrong, but they figured sciatica. Now the pain is back and nothing helps...not the stretches, the heating pad, a warm bath, or tylenol Also, when I stand up, you can see a bump beneath my cocyx...I'm worried about herniated disks, as I heard these are somewhat common during labor, but I don't know if they occur this early. I'm just worried that the pain is only going to increase and I'm going to be immobile for the next 2 mths.

I definitley never went through all that but I can relate to the back pain. Mine hurts so bad sometimes I feel like crying. Lately it has been my knee I think its is starting to swell I feel like I knocked it on something but I know I didnt. At this point maybe it wouldnt be so bad for us to lay in our beds for a couple months!!

kristy I also had a back injury when I was younger. I am only 16.5 weeks and not showing and I get back pain and sometimes very sharp pains in my back. If you can see a deformity then I would see a dr because I do not think that is a common pregnancy related issue. I would think that there is something more going on maybe due to the pregnancy. Let me know what you find out

I have a bad back myself and the pressure and weight of the baby can actually put alot of strain on your back. The bigger you get the more strain on your back because you may not notice it but you actually lean back while standing to balance out the weight. Also it could be your sciatic nerve acting up as well which is also a common problem in pregnancy.

Some people who have alot of back problems may experience back labor. However on the same note because you already have a bad back I am sure it'sjust the weight and pressure of the baby.

kristy i have the same problems as you. I did gymnastics, acrobats and all that for 13 yrs, but i also played soccer. well i blew out my knees in soccer and after healing up i went back to dance and such, well when i was on the uneven bars, i ended up falling flat out of the air b.c of knee pains, and just let go and BAM. i had a slipped disk, and pinched nerves.. and since then which was like 5 yrs ago, ive gained weight, i have severe back problems still, and my knees have actually become worse b.c of the way i have to support my back haha .. gotta LOVE the body!

Have you seen a chiropractor? Couldn't hurt to call one see if they might be able to help...

We have a trade type school in town that teaches massage therapy. See if one is available where you live. You can get prenatal massage and it's usually really cheap. Here it costs $20 for a 1 hour session.

I WILL NEVER go to a chiropractor again. I have been on multiple occasions and every time they make me hurt worse. I don't believe chiropracty is an actual form of therapy. That's just my opinion, my dad is an orthotist and he always had people coming in who's pain was aggravated my a chiropractor. I'm thinking of starting physical therapy again though b/c the pain is so intense. Thanks for the suggestions ladies.

Do y'all know if any sort of Rx pain meds are ok? I can hardly walk, and I'm not one to exaggerate pain. If this pain persists, I'm going to have to go to the urgent care clinic tomorrow b/c I can't take this. There's no position that alleviates the pain. Ahhhh...2 more months of this:(!!!!!!!!

I've been going to the Chiropractor though out my pregnancy and I have to say it definately helps alot. Doesn't always take the pain completely but definately helps so that I can function and still be a mother to my son.

im 29 weeks right now, and im starting to really feel what your saying. My back hurts so much that its actully a effort to get up and walk. Nothing has helped me so far other then being in a pool, that seems to ease the pain a little for me.

So my back pain is so bad that walking has become a real chore. We had to buy some stuff for Harper at Babies r'us yesterday, b/c the sale is ending today, and Michael had to push me around in a wheel chair. It was kind of embarrassing, but the pain when I walk is excruciating...I don't know what to do:(

Hi Kristy,
I also have major back pain. I broke my back when I was 15 and during pregnancy it can get to the point where I can't walk unless I am leaning on somehting, and other times I can walk without limping. I am sure you have tried sleeping with a pillow between your knees and such, I find that going from sitting, standing and lying down at pretty regular intervals really helps. I can only offer sympathy though, i haven't found anything that really helps me either. GOod luck, my heart goes out to you.

Kristy- OMG I soo remember being closer to the end and my back killing ME! And no one understood..sniff! The only thing that made me feel better seriously was laying down with a body pillow.. that helped me sooo much. At the last weeks I would have to go lay down during the day just to take some pressure off! Also Kristy you being so small have you thought about one of those wraps that go around your belly that helps support the weight of the baby and takes some pressure off your back.. I heard they are AWESOME! I will try to find a link for you!

Thanks so much Karen...I will look into one of those. I have a Snoogle pregnancy pillow and that's the only thing that can relieve my pain too. It's like no one understands what it feels like b/c they figure it can't be painful b/c I'm so small...I'm glad y'all understand!!
