Hi everyone!
I'm 25 years old & anorexic & have a BMI of 15. I am happy at this BMI & I really don't want to get past this weight but just scared they might admit me into hospital. Does anyone know if an adult can be forced into hospital against her will at this BMI?
If anybody knows or has any ideas please reply.
Thanks!

Well,m everything else seems fine, it's just my weight that's low. Do you think if I got it up to say, BMI of 16, would that still be low enough to be forced in?

It's just that my psychologist keeps telling me she can't force me to do anything, she says I don't have to see her if I don't want to & she says she can't force me to gain weight. She says it's up to me. If this is true, wouldn't that mean if I choose not to gain weight she won't admit me to hospital??
I'm afraid she will but don't know for sure because she just keeps telling me she can't force me to do anything including weight gain.

she cant force you. but she will continue to make suggestions in hopes that she wont scare you away. if you are still coming to her then she can make sure that you are ok. i hope that you decide to get the help on your own because it will be more effective if you do

Cherisalorraine, can you please elaborate on how a judge can force a person to be admitted to a hospital. Isn't that only if the judge finds the person incompetent as in the case of mental illness? I really do not know on what grounds a judge would find a person skinny enough to be forced into a hospital. Not all hospitals will even admit people if they do not have insurance. Can a judge force a hospital to admit a person without insurance?

JJ an eating disorder is a mental illness. i thought you knew that . it is also life threatening if it is allowed to continue without treatment. a judge has the right to order some one into a hospital for psyc. treatment and /or evaluation if it is found that the persons life is in danger due to mental illness. not all hospitals will admit people without insurance true but all hospitals in america that are public get grants to take people who are not insured and they have an indegency plan for people who can not pay. granted the service they provide is only med necessary but if some one is going to die that can be quite alot. not to mention if they need out patient care the gov. will foot the bill for some of it if they have been admitted prior to the first appt. we also have a state mental facility in every state. i do not know if a judge can order a hospital to take someone who does not have insurance if it is a private entity. but there are alot of other options.the judge doesnt find that the person is to skinny. it has nothing to do with outward appearance it has to do with bmi and the chance of survival along with the mental state, it is kind of like making some one go to an institution because they are at risk for committing suicide. i hope that answers your question if it doesnt then write back

I've seen people forced inpatient with low/normal BMI's. It depends on your health.
