This is my first time on this message board, I was just browsing and was interested in this topic because I have a young daughter.
Firstly Id to say how sad it is to see young girls posting asking "how to make myself throw-up" on the same pages as "Mothers wanting to help daughters"
truly sad.
Id like to add something that has happened to me. My four year old daughter is tall and by no means fat.
I never talk about my weight, I have a medium build myself, by no means obese. I never call anyone fat, I dont comment on food and I have done this on purpose to teach my daughter about not putting emphasis on weight.
On her way to Kindy a couple of weeks ago, she declared that she didnt want to wear a particular jacket because it made her look fat- She is only four years old.
I didnt need to think about it too long to figure out where this comment come from. She had obviously been called Fat while wearing it by another child - probably a girl, who had either listened to her mother complain about her own weight, or comment on someone elses.
Id just like to say to women out there, STOP this kind of talk, not only does it affect YOUR children, they take it onboard and use it on their peers. My work of teaching my daughter about not worrying about her weight was undone, thanks to you!
Think of something positive to say to your kids, teach them about nutrition, excersise, but keep your comments about fat people to yourselves!
Thanks for nothing!!!! ↓
