Any ideas on how to get a teenager to get out of bed short of throwing a bucket of water on him?

Yell OMG!!!! Get up quick, there's a HUGE SPIDER on your covers!!!!!!!!!
If it's winter,open their window!!!
Make them go to bed an hour earlier!!!!!!!
Lay a couple of ice cubes on them!!!
Start singing!!!!!!
Tell them their girlfriend/boyfriend/best friend is at the door or on the phone!

Here is how we do it. Curtis sets his alarm for 6am and I set mine for 6:30am (to make sure he got up). There are times when I find he has shut the alarm off and gone back to sleep,so by me checking on him at 6:30,if he's asleep I can get his ass up and he still has time to get ready for school on time!

I got Dan has alarm clocks. 1 is called sonic something and it is louder than our smoke alarm and alternates tones. Freaks the dogs out! That one he just throws across the room. I have been physically pulling him out of bed but I'm screwed once I go back to work. He slept right through work Tuesday when I had my surgery . Thank God his boss likes him! I think I'm going to try atomic's idea. I just have to find an electrician to get the right voltage...don't want to actually kill the bugger!

i used to havea big problem with alarm clocks....my parents finally just gave up trying to get me up. if i was late for work or late for school that was my problem, and I'd have to deal with it. whether i get suspended or fired that was my own problem. I think once my parents stopped "babysitting" me, that was the easiest and best way for me. everyone is different i guess, but I was the type that had to learn on my own and it was always the hard way!! lol...

I agree with letting him be responsible for his own actions or non-actions. I'm really big on that. But when I'm working 54 hours a week to scrounge together enough $ for tuition and he sleeps through his 1st class, I tend to get a little ticky.
