Every dog I've ever gotten is through rescue! www.allbreedrescue.org to be exact, I was also a foster for them. I will NEVER go out and buy a dog (although they need loving homes just as much).

Terri i agree pet store puppies do need homes to. The only thing is with pet stores is they purchase thier puppies through puppy mills. I dont know if you are aware of the touture the dogs go through in thoes mills. They are kept in kennels barely big enough fit them, some cat even lay down thats how small they are. They are not fed properly, their cramped spaces are full of excriment! They develope dieses due to thier lack of care! The female are bread and bread where they dont even have time to recupatate in between litters. Over half the pups born to these females eather are dead at birth or will die to poor conditions and lack of neutricion. I feel terrible for these animals but if we keep purchasing from pet stored we provide a demand. When there is a demand the people who run these mills will keep abusing and over breeding to supply the demand. We can help stop the poor abusive treatment by adopting our dogs! There are so many out there that need homes.

All of my dogs and cats are from rescues or shelters. I found both of my dogs on www.petfinder.com You can look for specific breeds (they are all crosses but sometimes there is a dominance in the mix) and find the locations nearest to you. I have found some pretty great animals on there!

That
link is to my latest addition...although they were wrong about the breeds. He is a Yellow lab X Rhodesian Ridgeback...He just didn't get the ridge or coat until later... He has always had those ridiculous face wrinkles though!

Adorable pup! they said he was a Lab/ German shepard mix. He does look like a German shepard, you can see why they would have thaught that. He is a real cutie! he is what about 3 month old now?

He is 4 months now. He has a flat coat and the wrinkles. The rest of the little looked like yellow labs. He is already 55 lbs!!

Randi he is a cutie, I looked at the picture . I do wonder if he is a Shepard mix. The reason I say that is he has the markings of a shepard he dosnt look like a Lab mix. If he is indeed a Rhodesian Ridge back like you said, he should have a strip of fur down his back that grows the opposite direction from the rest of the fur. It will look as if it is standing up, only in the opposite direction.

Not all ridgebacks are born with the ridge. it is even more common in crosses to not have it. He is a solid red colour now (no more black and tan) and has the wrinkles on his face. The yellow lab comes from the fact that the rest of the litter looked just like yellow labs. We are just going on what our vet has told us she figures his breed is and he looks just like the pictures we have seen. He also has many of the characteristics we learned are common of ridgebacks, after we started doing research. He is definatley stubborn, has food agression and is very sensitive to any raised voices...he will cry and pout. Our other dog is a shepherd lab and you could hit her in the face with a bag of bricks and her feelings would not be hurt! I guess it doesn't matter what he is. We love him anway!

My Doberman was adopted he is wonderfull! You really can find some great dogs in the shelters. Many have training already and others are so easy to train, with basic training they can make nice obediant family pets. The animals I feel most for are the cats, there are so many of every age. Most will not be adopted and if they are unlucky enough to end up in a kill shelter they really wont have a chance.

i would like to adopt one but they spay them ! i feel they are trying to kill all pitbull breed so them want be no more

They spay most rescue animals regardless of breed. It's to control the pet overpopulation problem.

Personally I would much rather have a spay or neutered dog, they make for better pets and training is much easier.

All of my pets are rescues...1 from a shelter, 1 from an unwanted litter (both of these are cats) and my pit is a rescue from an unplanned litter of a bad owner.

And, if nothing else, go to a reputable breeder. Seriously, pet store dogs are bad news most of the time. Many of them have health issues.

But, not all pet stores buy from mills, either. I will say that the majority do, but not all.
