I'd separate them at bone time so he can't bother the other one.If he becomes a bully to any of the other pets though or even still keeps on bullying the one dog,I'd seriously consider giving him away because that's not fair to the ones who are well behaved. ↑ |
You should seperate them when you give them bones. Our dogs do the same thing, one always steals from the other, they never want their own, just each others. I make sure to put them up when they are not chewing on them, it causes fights to have one bone down. ↑ |
That's really, really sad that someone would suggest just giving the dog away because the dog (clearly the alpha) is very young and is still learning how to behave. I don't care if it's a pit or a golden retriever, it's a personality thing when they are possesive with treats or toys. My pit isn't at all but my mom's golden retriever is super possesive with bones- and she's not thinking of giving her away! Tell your mother in law to either seperate the dogs when they have treats or stop giving them bones. Also it sounds like a it wouldn't hurt to spend some more time on training since the puppy is only 7 months? A pit is a handful and probably needs a little more time and energy spent than other breeds. ↑ |
What I would try to do is mix viniger and water and spray it when the dog is acting crazy and trust me it works on humans to!!! ↑ |
Danielle-aub I see you have a female and a male. What sex is the 1 year old? And are they neutered?
It sounds like the 7month old and the one year old are competing for the higher position. The 2 year old female is more submissive and knows her place in the pack, thus causing her to retreat when approached!
Your 7 month old is demmonstrating dominance, he will show it to another dog as well as a human. He knows no diffrence between a human submitting or a dog submitting. All he knows is that he hold a higher position in the pack! He needs to learn he is not the dominant figure in the pack!
He will continue this behavior for as long as he is allowed! If you have unaltered males a living in the same house this can cause tention between the two. Especially when there is a female present. ↑ |
Oh..... as the other replies have stated, you may want to try giving them their bones in diffrent rooms. Or have one more bone than there are dogs. Then when one gets his taken there will be another for him to claim. ↑ |
Oh! That's a really good one lindalu!! I never thought of having an extra bone...dur on me. lol. ↑ |
Dawn thats what I do for my dogs I have a Chihuaha and a Doberman. The Chihuaha is always stealing the Dobermans bones. So I went out and got another bone so now there are three bones and never a problem! Ya I know this must sound weird a Chihuaha staling from a Doberman! LOL!!! ↑ |
