My two and a half year old Tonkinese who I dearly love looks like she has a flea problem. She jumps up, snaps at her rear, licks hard, etc. But i can't find a sign of a flea on her or my other cats and neither can the vet. The vet did clean out her anal glands which helped for a couple of days, but she's back to it worse than ever. The vet is going to try several things but it would help me to know iof someone else has had a cat do something like this.

I'm sorry, but it does sound like fleas. She jumps and bites quickly as they're biting her and she's reacting. I know that my cat has fleas when she does this and I have to get the treatment out.

You probably won't find any fleas on her as there probably isn't very many - you'll only see fleas on animals if they're crawling with them. Fleas move very, very quickly and are good at hiding too.

I'd treat for fleas and see what happens.

It could also be and allergy of some sort. Do you keep her inside or out? What kind of food do you feed, good or a low grade? Also, she could have mites instead of fleas which would be harder to detect. Sounds like your vet needs to run some test because this behaviour is definately not normal.

Hi Joen,
Did you try giving her a bath or try front line or advantage, do not , i repeat do not use hartz, because i have a maine coon cat, and he got deathly sick. did the vet try flea stuff? or mites? i am sorry i know i am probably not much help. i was just wondering.

I agree on not using hartz!!!!!! My mother used it on one of her cats and the poor thing got really sick too! The extra money is definately worth spending to get frontling or advantage, (which I've used them both and think that either one works the same basically)........ oh and I have a maine coon as well, his name is Ozzy, he's my little (or actually very big) baby. Oh I need to try and go back to sleep, lol. It's two in the morning here.

I have a small yorkshire terrier that does the same thing and she also sits with her legs open as if she is looking for fleas and she hasn't any. we use advantage and she is bathed regulary. The vet said she seems to be obsessed with it and he also cleaned out her anal glands and she had a sist in there and she was also put on some medication that helped for a while, but it didn,t last.
