Toby nipped at one of my daycare kids today. The boy is 6 and has been told and told not to hang on Toby and Toby growled to warn him, but before I could get over to him, Toby nipped at his face. There was no red marks or puntures, so I think that he bumped him and scared the little boy more than anything. I already called his trainer and he said that this in fixable, and that we have to work on this with him. Please keep your fingers crossed/ I have been crying all morning because I thought we were going to have to get rid of him. He is my baby and I don't want to have to get rid of him. So if anyone has any tips that I could add to what my trainer told me to do, PLEASE let me know.

The only advice I would have is to not allow the dog around your daycare children. No doubt your dog is a wonderful dog but what you explained could be a huge deal to a parent who doesn't know your dog. I never allow my dogs around children, unless they are family. The smallest incident can be miss understood for a attempted bit. Good luck with the trainer.

Thanks Lindalu, I usually don't allow them around my animals, but it started raining, so I let him in the house. I plan to explain to the parents tonight when they get here. I was planning on talking to them anyway, because he torments me cat all the time. No matter how many times I tell him and when she trys to get away from him, he holds her down. I asked him if he would do the things that he does to my cat to people. He said no, but that the animals aren't people who cares,

The only bad thing is Toby's trainer moved to Arizona so we have to do everything over the phone. But he is an awesome trainer.

Toby is your older dog right? The calm, quiet, relaxed one?? That kid must be a real piece of work. Any dog can nip when pushed too far. My Bully Tank gave my nephew "a warning" and he is the sweetest, most gentle pup...LOVES everybody. Can you get rid of the child that is tormenting your pets?? If he said "it's only an animal" then I guarantee his parents share the same views. I don't think you will get any support from them.

Or if that's not possible, can you keep Toby in a separate bedroom when it is raining?

So sorry to hear. Kids aren't very good around dogs, and dogs don't attack unless provoked ... Best thing to do in any case is to keep the dog away from the kids ...

Well I talked to the mom when she picked him up and I told her what happened, and she yelled at the boy!! I was amazed!!! She said that she would talk to him when they got home.

Dana, yes My Toby is my older one. I spent all day trying to figure out where to put him. All the bedrooms are upstairs and he will not go upstairs. And for the time being I have to have him on a lead during the teaching him "be nice" command. We had the kids start working him through his paces tonight as well. Hopefully, everything works out. Thanks guys!

Momof3 thats so great she understood! Personally I think most kids need a swift kick in the rear when they are told to stay away from an animal and they don't. Then the dog gets irritated with the kid toying with them and snarls. The parent will then assume the dog is vicious when in most cases it is not true. Any way its good to hear it all worked out!

Ahem...it was Dawn LOL! Sorry, people get Dana and I confused all the time...I think it's funny : ))

I am very pleasantly surprised at the mom's response...I didn't expect that at all!! Good for you Dani ♥

I am so sorry Dawn. I knew it was you, I don't know what my problem was last night.
Well today I had Toby on his lead and let the daycare kid try and give him a treat. He wouldn't take it. So then I took the treat and tried to give it to him, wouldn't take it. My 1 1/2 year old takes the treat from me and as soon as he saw that she had it, he starts wagging his tail, sat really pretty, took the treat so nice. Then he looked and me and turned his head away!!!!! He must be mad at me!!
