Okay with out any agruments, (lol) I have a question. We crate trained our puppy, not just for housebreaking, but for safety as well. Here is my question, her kennel is getting to small for her, and we have a bigger one, but everytime I have tried to put her in it, she freaks out, and I mean freaks. She poops and pees and everything. Any tips to make it an easier transtion?

Place some doggy treats in there.
Get in there with her.
Place some toys and cuddlies in for her.
Make it a game - let the kids play in there with her.

Momof3 how do you know the crate is to small, can she stand and turn around in it? If she can do that then it is not to small. You see her crate is her den, she feels comfortable and safe in it! Even though you think it is to small for her it is comfortable!

Put all her belongings in the crate, leave the door open see if she will go to it her self. Do not try to shove her in it unwillingly! that can only cause her to dis like the crate, making her not wanting to go in at all! You want her to feel safe with the new one, just as she feels with the old one!

You go in the crate your self with a fist full of treats or a special toy she will like. try coaxing her in with a big meaty bone most dogs will climb a wall for one of thoes! If she goes in close the door for a few minuts and then let her out.

By changing her in to a larger crate is like starting all over again! They become safe feeling in the original one and now they are beeing moved to another.

If she can still stand and turn then the crate is fine, thats all she needs! even if it seems a bit cramped to you it is what she is comfortable with. If it is working dont fix it! LOL!!!

If it is too small, you can get a bigger one and get a divider and just put it at the back. I did that with my dogs b/c I got them as puppies from shelters and so you can never guess how big they will be. I got large breed kennels and then just moved a divider to the back so they just had enough room to turn around. For the first little bit I would put them in with eachother b/c our newest dog did not like the kennel.

Randi great advice! If her crate doesnt come with the devider she can use an old comforter or blanket to fill the extra space. Also Momof3 be sure the crate is in the exact same place the other one was.

I had a 175lb Fila(brazillian mastiff) that would only go in a 500 series vari kennel!!!! He would barrel past the 3 700's and fly into the 500!!! So, my springer was in a 700 and weighed only 47lbs!! Too funny! He never in all of his 10yrs every went in a bigger crate he refused !!!

She is starting to have problems turning around. Plus she is no where near ready to be without a crate, and she is getting BIG.

Momof3 if she can turn around then keep it for now. Put the large one in the same place keeping the door open on it. Put the smaller one next to the large one but dont leave the door open as much on the small one. What you want to do is try to transition her from the small crate to the larger one with out any distress. Another thing you can try is to cover the new larger crate, drape a blanket or sheet over the top. This will give it a smaller feel, she may like it better!

What if I put the smaller one IN the bigger one for a few days? Would that help and then move it next to it, and do that stuff?

Thats funny you said that! I was telling my daughter about your situation and she said the same thing! She said well she could put the small one in to the big one. I say Its worth a try! you never know.... some times there is no certaint rules to training. Its all what works, even if it doesnt make sence!
