Hamsters can take a while to become tame. Put some thick gloves on (leather if possible) and get your pet out every day to get used to being handled. If he bites you then it doesn't matter because he'll just get a mouthful of glove.

It will probably take about 2 weeks of daily handling before you can take the gloves off.

Show your pet that you're kind by giving him some pieces of fruit by hand and he'll soon come round to being your friend.

You need to make sure the cage is secure. Hamsters are really good at escaping.

Why is he the only thing you can trust? Are your parents no good?

my perants are good but i dont feel that they always listen so i talk to my hampster it mite sound crazy but you no what i mean they dont answer back and talk to through your conversations

Yeah, I know what you mean *LOL* Are you having any more luck with the hamster now? When I was young I used to keep them and they'd bite me and escape all the time. I switched to gerbils eventually, but they run very fast.

I now have two kids of my own and we have guinea pigs - they make good pets - don't bite unless they're very scared or very hungry and squeak lots.

I hope you manage okay with your pet. I'm sorry that your parents don't listen to you - I'm sure they care but parents are usually in a world of their own - I know I am quite often. take care :-)

I had a hamster that was really violent so I had to give it away at the shop where i bought it.But for how long have you had it?
Because if you've had it less than 8 days,u can give it back.
But if you haven't,you have to let smell your hand until it starts to get used to the smell of your hands. Then when it decides that it knows you,it will eventually go on your hand.

Most hamsters are violent - guinea-pigs are better as pets in my opinion.

We have had hamsters for about two years now ....We raised them for a local pet store but we have 10 that are our little babies...Some of them have been biters. We have noticed that they were biting mostly when we tried to get them out of the cage because they become territorial and don't like a big hand coming at them in their home. So we started getting them out with a cardboard tissue roll. They love tunnels and will usually go right in it so you can pick them up. And make sure your hands don't smell like food or another pet. As long as you can handle it at least 15 to 30 minutes everyday it should come around.

i have two hampsters 2 boys would be ok together

No, two males will fight. Hamsters are solitary creatures and shouldn't be kept together really.

I agree with you fiona.I've had lots of hamsters and I've had one guinea pig and it was lovely. But it died 3 years ago.Now my parents only let me have hamsters because my parents say that guinea pigs take a lot of space.

By the way, hampster is not the correct spelling. It's spelt as HAMSTER.

Name: Fiona | Date: Apr 7th, 2006 10:35 PM
They do take up more space but they don't try to kill you every time you put your hand in their cage like hamsters do!!! *LOL*

Just keep doing what you are doing, eventually he will get use to you. When he is feeding out of one hand try patting him with the other hand.
