Name: Nicola [ Original Post ] When is the best age to start potty training a child? I know many people say "when they are ready" but when is the average age? My two are about 17 months old now and I'm teaching them everything about life as we go along and I'd like to be prepared for the next main thing. What are the signs that a baby is ready to be potty trained...any past experiences or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks! ↓

They say to wait intill your child is ready! Andrew has started to tell us whren he is going to do a pooh! So we are going to start after xmas! ↑

I can tell when mine are going to go to the loo. They make it blatently obvious...probably even to a blind and deaf old man. Are they still to young to train? ↑

No earlier than 2 No later than 3....2 years 3months perfect if it falls in the summer...got this from a mother of 8 when i was about to train my second, cause my first was a disaster..took six months to train the first started her at 18mths..my other 5 kids after applying her methods were fully out of the nappy day and night and never had a night accident only a couple of day ones (usually because they were engrossed in doing something and left it till the last moment)...in 7 days. they dont have the control or care factor under 2..alot of people have started that early and some suceed but most call their child toilet trained when they themselves take them and put them on the toilet each hour..i dont call that toilet trained...when they take themselves to the toilet ..thats toilet trained. all the mothers that i have known to toilet train over three it has taken them ages to get them out of the nappy. (6-12mths) good luck ↑
