My son presented in a way in labour that isn't common. Instead of the normal way he came out brow first and also had the cord wrapped round his neck. He had severe facial bruising and swelling but other than that at that point i didnt think anything was that wrong. At 20 hours of age he developed frequent seizures and had to have medication so strong that it could stop his breathing and they told us it wouldnt be advisable to rescusitate him again. We had an MRI scan and we were told his brain damage was at the severest end of the scale. The official term for what he has is Hypoxic Ischaemic Encepalopathy Grade 3. The nurses all looked at us with pity and told just to take lots of pictures and enjoy every moment with him as not them or the doctors thought he would survive. My son is a fighter though, he was doing good up until april when he got so sick it took 12 hours for his body to shut down and he had to be rescusitated again (which they said they wouldn't have done had they known his medical issues). Again more tests were done and medication given and the doctors said that his liver was in a bad state and not improving. They said he most likely has 1-2 weeks to live and we better start planning his funeral. While he was in hospital they did a second MRI scan and the damage to his brain was more evident now. All he has is just the brain stem. A neurologist that saw his scan said that its even amazing he'd lived up to 8 months. Riley is now 14 months and he has cerebal palsy both dystonic and spastic he has develepmental delay but slowly he's learning how to do things.
Sorry my story was long i just felt i wanted to get it out . I take it a day at a time knowing that at any day it could be his last, i just dont know. I love him so much though, he is my world.
Its really hard when we've been told he isnt going to make it and his life expectancy isn't supposed to be long. I dont know if anyone knows what thats like.

You have one tough little fighter, I'll keep him in my prayers.
