Hello. There are way too many negative stereotypes of at-home mothering going on. The worst critic of at-home mothers is a woman named Linda Hirshman who says women shouldn't even be allowed to stay home. Not only that, but she scoffs at part-time working moms, homeschooling moms, and even women who don't put in 50plus hour work weeks in business and law. She is scary because people are listening to her, and I'm afraid it will erode the chance for women to stay home, not to mention we already have enough trouble trying to get people to respect the important role of caregiving. Here's a link to an editorial I wrote that was published in my local paper. What do you think?

I've never read that particular author, but I personally am with you. Actually, I'm probably a little more on the extreme side. I am what I like to call a "traditionalist" (I've yet to find out if that is a real word or not) I believe that women shouldn't work. I think that feminism is wrong. And I feel that the entire feminist movement changed America for the worst. Things like voting may be okay - but as far as women running for president? I just thinks it's wrong. I think gender "equal" roles cause far more problems than complimentary gender roles in a marriage. Men are men, women are women, and children should be raised in a home knowing that they are both great - but they are different. I saw a t-shirt once that I thought summed it all up hilariously, it read "Feminist Should Try To Pee Standing Up."

I agree with you Nicole, I believe that a womans place is at home and that is the way God intended it, I too am a "traditionalist". I married at 18, both my husband and I were virgins, I stay home with our children, have dinner on the table when he comes home, etc. Some may call this "living in the past" but it works for my husband and I, yes he wears the pants in the family and I love it. I love that he makes all the decisions, I love being protected and he adores, he may handle all the decisions but all I have to do is state my opinion and because he respects me, we normally come to a mutual agreement. I need one of those shirts.

She should not be pushing her opinion on others. I believe children need their mothers more than anyone can imagine. In this hard world, NO ONE WILL EVER LOVE YOU AS MUCH AS YOUR MOTHER, THAT IS IF YOU HAVE A GOOD MOTHER. I feel sorry for those that don't. She is just making it hard on women. We already do everything else, much less hold down a 50 hour job. No thanks. I might go back to work one or two days a week but nothing more until they are at least in school and it will still be part-time. For all you mothers that have to work 30 plus hours a week, I know you love your children and when you have to then point blank "then you have to, no questions asked". I don't know your circumstances. My mother had to work and she did it for us. Yes we missed her and no we still don't have the kind of relationship that we could have had if she would have been there more. But she is still my mom and I still love her. Just my opinion.

Raising your children is the hardest job anyone could have. You are everything in one, a nurse, teacher, cook, maid, psycologist, and supporter etc............etc............ Sometimes even their dad. I just want to know, does women have children?
