My husband is a pretty good partner, he will help me if I ask him or if he sees something that needs to me done. He goes to the store, helps with kids 50% of the time, does laundry, cuts the grass, but when it comes to cooking-he hasn't cooked in the twelve years that we have been married. I hate to cook and he doesn't know how. Both of our mother never really taught us how to cook. I'm sick of fast food and boxed meals and I don't want my kids to live this way. HELP!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions?

Look to see if in your communtiry there are some demonstrations or cooking classes that you can both take together, that way you get time together and away from the kids.
or if you have some fundimaentals about cooking, try and get a sitter for the evening to take the kids and you and your husband have fun in the kitchen together, experementing.

Maybe some people could share some recipes. Denise what kinds of foods do you want to learn how to cook?

Denise,

I have a real easy and tasty recipe:

Italian Sausage with Noodles
1/2 lb Pork Sausage (Jimmy Dean works fine)
1/2 lb Ground Beef
Fry up/Brown both in skillet, drain off any fat, and put aside to cool.
Boil 1/2 bag of Tri colored noodles (spiral shaped)
Drain off water after completely cooked.
Shred 8 oz of cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

In a 9 X 13 pan mix meat, noodles, cheese & 1/2 Jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce.

You can also mix in 1 small can of mushrooms, & 1/2 C chopped onions if you like.
Cover pan w/ foil & Bake @ 350 for 45 minutes

Can your husband work a BBQ grill? Summer is the best time for grilling.

I used to hate to cook, too, and for a long time I'd done the "single-adult" stuff, like sushi and salads and around-the-globe dishes. With kids now, gotta learn! It doesn't seem that hard now. The main idea is the same: vegetables - carbs(rice, potatoes) - protein (fish, meat), on the same plate. I don't do many sauces/ gravies. Though he kids love melted cheese on broccolis. It helps that broccoli and spinach are their favorites!

I lucked out in that department. My husband is the chef at the best resort in Washington (Alderbrook), and he brings home stuff. Since he works late (till 10 or 11 at night) I get to eat midnight snacks all the time. As for cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner - he hasn't even touched a frying pan in our house. But that was my choice, I am kinda possesive of the "woman jobs". Last night he brought home lamb and gran mariner prawns. yum.

And a word of advice to Denise - pick 5 or 6 meals, learn to cook them, and then just use those to start. It may get boring to eat the same thing over and over, but for kids it never gets old and you can start mixing it up and changing stuff once you get comfortable in the kitchen. I don't ever follow a recipe anymore, I just put things together. I am also a really big believer in the veggie/carb/protien rule. You can always use differnent combinations of those three things to make dinner different, without actually having to learn to cook anything (like meatloaf with macaronie and cheese and peas one night - then potatoes and carrots another)

BBQ, all husbands or bfs enjoy that lol( I think it makes them feel manly hehe) We had one for the forth and plan to have many more and thats the nights I dont have to cook so im happy lol. I experience with alot of meals when I cook because my mother wasnt the best cook even though love her dearly lol. I have come up with some good stuff also lol. My bfs favorite thing I cook is(Well steak) but other than that is White rice smothered with Chicken peices with lil bits of mushrooms and green onions. I cook the chicken the before I take it off the burner I pour some Soy sauce in it and let its cook into the chicken and it gives a such a nice flavor. ANd its easy hehe
