My damn cat has just brought a fledgling bird home! It's almost 11pm. I've rescued it and placed it into a container. I've given it some mashed up cat food, but it looks pretty p*ssed off!

What do I feed it?

I'm going to have to take it to work tomorrow so that I can give it some food during the day.

What can I give it to eat? Does anybody know?

Do you have a vet nearby that sees exotic pets??? Maybe the vet that cared for Squeaky?? Ring them up and see what they say. I would say like sunflower seeds etc. Or maybe wild bird seeds like you can buy to put in a bird feeder. You said it is almost 11 pm there, do you have any all night emergency vets you can ring???

I've put a hot water bottle underneath the container. I found a website that says you can give some species non-fishy cat or dog food, so I've done that. It seems to like the cat food. It just cheeped at me! I don't know what species it is. It looks like a young magpie - it seems to have white bits on some feathers.

Oh, crap.....this is all I need! I'm gonna have to phone the vets!

Atomic you are such the nurse!! I had considered becoming a vet assistant at some point in my career....still may if I go back outside to work, however Douglas doesn't want me too, he knows I'd be bringing home every stray abandoned animal around!!

I don't think Herman has bitten it. I can't see any bite marks or anything! It just looks fed up. It's feet are intact. I'd love to care for wild animals as a job michelle!

It's a blackbird. It's cheepin' it's head of at me and eating the mashed up food okay. I'm gonna have to go to bed now. I'll take it along to work with me in the morning. I'll have to pop out to the car during breaks and keep feeding it!

We were told to give our injured wild birds

Wet dog food slightly watered down (low sodium.. no crappy grocery store stuff)
Mashed worms and berries

Good luck!

injured animals flock to your house don't they?

We just had a bad wind/rain storm today and when I checked my pond there were 2 baby birds dead in it :( must have fell out of the tree and drowned .
