i'm thinking its time to get a carseat. the bambina is getting too long for her carrier one that attaches to the stroller. i haven't taken it out of my truck for months -- i just have it attached (rear facing) to the base and take her in and out that way. when will she big enough to face forward?? also, where is the best place to get one. the stroller carrier combo i have came from toys r us...but i want something a little less expensive (but still as safe as possible, obviously). thanks guys!

They say at least 20 pounds AND at least a year old. I waited until they little legs weren;t able to really stretch out. But here in the states at least they are trying, they need to be 20 pounds and at least a year old.

thanks mo3 -- now i can get an upright seat that will also be rear facing, right?

Yes, and then you can put it rear facing and then after she is big enough and old enough you just turn it around.

Oh and check walmart and target. Try and buy a new one, because they are always making changes to car seats to make them safer.

thanks again - yeah i'll definately get a new one. i've never done this before and definately don't want to do it wrong. i was reading that it's estimated that 80% of car seats are installed wrong and i want to make sure that i get the right kind.

i'm sorry dina... what is stupied?

Emma2 check with your local fire or police departments, because alot of times they will have one person that is certified to teach parents how to put the seats in correctly and around here they will do it at anytime, but they usually have a weekend were you take your car and they check the seat out and repostion it if needed.

We got a safety first one from walmart and I love it! Noah seems so safe in it and it doesn't even bother him to be in it. Also, if you are want to make sure it is installed correctly a lot of times your local firestation or police station will show you how to properly install it.

With the car seat i own it says 8kgs and up - that the baby can sit forward and not lying down.

I think it actually has something to do with the car seat itself and how its insulated etc...jsut read the directions on the box.

I had oliver sitting up straight and NOT lying down for a while now..see he is really tall..and would literally kick his feet against the base and try and worm out of it..it was way too dangerous. So i had the bumpers for his head and it was fine..now he couldnt fit in there more perfect.

I bought mine from a BIGW - which is pretty much the same as walmart...you could try ebay and purchase a brand new one of a wholesale company to try and get a bargain

That
is the car seat I have and I love it. It reclines so he isn't slumping forward when he falls asleep but I don't have to haul him around in his carry around car seat. It goes forward facing and then is a booster seat as well. You get what you pay for and I believe it's worth it to get a good one... the 3 or 4 stage ones are awesome.

No problem. I love the Eddie Bauer line. Thats what we got for his infant seat as well... just make sure to get a seat belt clip to secure the lap belt. They don't come with the seat sometimes. I had to get my husband to actually get in the car seat to get it tight enough... it should be able to squirm an inch either way. I just went to a car seat clinic and got it checked and thank god it was in there good. They aren't seats that are easy to move until they are forward facing :( SO we had to get another for our second car.

Just like everyone said make sure your child is back facing until at least one year old.
ALSO DON'T FORGET TO LOOK AT THE LENGTH REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR CARRIER CAR SEATS! I was amazed to find out that even though our little guy was far from the weight requirement he was over for the length requirement. He is a skinny tall guy.
The best car seats on the market are the britax brand carseat. They can be a little pricey but the company is a great company, they are sturdy and best of all safe!

For
a less expensive one, Consumer Reports voted this one tops. My family members all have this one to keep in the car for DS. Evenflo Triumph 5 I have even seen them at BJ's.

Britax all the way, worth the money and VERY SAFE! I would get one new, you can look online or at babies r us! Britax will last you and you can order new frabric for it should you have another baby down the road. Also have someone from the fire department install it for you. My job had me trainned in carseat install and I can tell you 95% that I have redone for clients were not tight enough. They make this really cool belt tightner for about 15.00 at babies r us and was tested to 60 pounds:) It really gets the seatbelt tight, however, I have the latch system in my car and that has only been tested to 60 pounds also just as an FYI! We all seem to have bigger babies and carseats have just not been tested more for the bigger babies.

also it is better to have a carseat in each car and not to move carseats from car to car, this is how...in a rush people don't reinstall the tightest and best way. Get a britax for the car the baby will be in the most and a cheaper one for the other cars and always leave installed.

Aren't the Britax only a two stage though? They don't convert from a forward facing to a forward facing booster seat for kids up to 80lbs... that's what turned me off. I don't want to have to keep buying car seats.

Actually I just looked on my instructions and mine is a booster up to 100lbs...

Make sure to remember to keep a child in a 5 point harness carseat until 80lbs THAN transfer into a booster seat. Here is a video that shows why it is SO IMPORTANT NOT TO TRANSFER YOUR CHILD TO A BOOSTER SEAT TOO EARLY! It's a cryer.

That's what I am saying mamal. My carseat (the Eddie Bauer one) holds the child up to 100lbs. The straps are easy to adjust-there is no rethreading or anything.

Name: 1234mommy5678 | Date: May 28th, 2007 6:46 PM
just remember the 5 point on the eddie bauer has only been tested up to 60 pounds some only to 40 pounds. So you need to read...read and find out what your seat was tested up too.

that movie was so sad but so right.

PLEASE READ THIS AFTER YOU WATCH THE VIDEO...
It has recently come to my attention that there is another seat besides the Britax Regent (that I mention in the video) that will also hold a child in a 5-point harness up to 80 pounds. It is called the Radian80 made by Sunshine Kids and can be found here:

http://www.kyledavidmiller.org
Our mission is to keep children in a 5pt safety harness up to 80lbs - we are accepting applications from families who cannot afford to purchase these car seats and are supplying those seats through the tax-free donations you can make through the site. We also have car seat safety information posted and will answer any question you have on car seat safety through the contact webpage. Please visit the site and help keep as many children safe as we can.

Video Info:
My son was killed in a car accident last year because a senile, 78 year old woman ran a red light and hit us causing us to flip into a ditch. Kyle's seatbelt came unlatched during the roll and he was ejected. His seatbelt was later examined by several experts who determined it was faulty and told me that seatbelts regularly fail, especially in roll over accidents. I had no idea that seatbelts could fail and think that this is something everyone should be made aware of. The government also needs to be more strict about making sure the people they issue licenses to are fit to drive...

Kyle David Miller
