Any suggestions...he is really miserable only slept 10 minutes today...and only went to bed a hour ago. His nose is runny..he is coughing..his face flushed and nose red :(

He wont eat his solids...and he has only had 3 bottles today..if that. He cant really drink them because his nose is blocked up. Ive been periodically cleaning it out with a cotton bud so it makes it easier on the kid to breath..especially when the little tiger sucks his lip for comfort.

Any suggestions to help comfort him..and how long usually do flu like symptoms like this last in a baby...

I have given him baby panadol twice today to help..and bonjella on his gums too.

Anyway im off to bed, shitty day this has been..have a good one

Oh poor baby!! Just keep his fluids up - and keep an eye on him for dehydration. Try just giving him lots of smaller bottles - vicks rub on his chest or on his singlet will help clear his nose. Hope it helps a little - not really much you can do but give him pamol and keep his fluids up.

Give him regular Infant Paracetamol and also Infant Ibuprofen syrup if he is feverish. The ibuprofen often works better if it's given at the same time as the Paracetamol, but don't give the ibuprofen as often - follow the directions on the bottle - keep a list of what time you've given what drug as it's hard to keep track sometimes. I used to keep a list of the fridge - just to make sure I didn't overdose them!

Don't overheat him - allow good ventilation in the room too.

Rub some Menthol Vapour Rub onto his chest, back and throat.

Buy some Karvol or other infant menthol drops to drop onto his clothes and bedding....this stuff is great for helping them to breathe!

You can buy nasal saline drops from the Chemist which will help to clear the snots. Gently squeeze his nostrils together and the snots will come out - wipe away with a tissue.

Add some Baby Vapour Bath to the bathwater.

Give him some little yoghurts as food - don't worry if he doesn't take any solids - just try to encourage fluids and the sugar in the yoghurt will keep his strength up as well as being easy for him to eat and digest.

Baby viruses - the fever usually breaks in about 2-3 days - then they're just snotty for a couple of weeks. They can often be left with a cough after a virus, so don't worry if this happens.

I think that's about it......welcome to the joys of sick kids! *LOL* Infants usually suffer a lot from these viruses in the first couple of years - it gets better after that - then they get chicken pox, threadworms and nits!

Have you ever come across the Karvol capsules? You break them open and squeeze the drops out onto the pillow or a handkerchief! They're fantastic for snotty breathing!

ohhh crap...im paranoid about greasy hair...i was mine everyday...my hair is disgustingly greasy if i dont wash it for one night...and the twins have theirs done every 2 days.

You should get a better shampoo for your hair type cos washing everyday can make greasy hair worse. It drys your hair out and makes it think it needs to produce more oils.

But yeah greasy hair is not a good look aah. lol - cant bloody win

What I can't understand is these days - people wash their hair then stick lots of products on to make it look shiny 'n' greasy then use straighteners etc.........I mean, it looks like you haven't washed it! I don't get that at all. I wash my hair to make it look clean and fluffy.....not oily 'n' straight!

Name: Nicolaaa | Date: May 27th, 2007 11:09 AM
i NEVER use hair products. other than shampoos conditioners and heat protectant spray stuff...it just DOES make your hair look icky and slimy. haha

I do straighten it though...my hair is not curly or straight...its wavy....and annoying...it sorta kinks out at the sides in the stupidest ways!!

Name: bex27 | Date: May 27th, 2007 11:09 AM
lol yeah and hormones from pregnancy can do lots of funny things to your hair! I straighten my hair sometimes but you only need the tiniest bit of product - people use too much and it looks gross

My son has started to use hair gel on his hair! He wants to look like David Tennant (Dr Who) and he plasters it on to the front and he looks so sweet! I have to style it for him! He's only 8!

aww the twins LOVE my heat spray...so i filled one of the emptys with water and everymorning when i tie their hair up we spray thier hair with it like mummy. They get really excited! so funny...

I tie their hair up in lil pigtails now...and it is so damm cute. Their hair is a lovely length. Its quite thin and babyish still though...and Daisy's is curlier and frizzier than Poppy's.

aww poor olbi..hope hes feeling better soon.when frankie had it it lasted 2 or 3 days with the not eating and not wanting to drink much and after that he was still a bit poorly but started to eat again..caplol was the only thing that helped.

Name: Dr Bunnz | Date: May 27th, 2007 3:53 PM
well he has slept 7 hours, im happy with that...but he has woken up 10x worse with the nose..

i cleaned it out again, gave him more baby panadol and put some vapor rub on his chest and at the back of the neck

As for that saline treatment for his nose......his snots are already wet etc now..is that still going to help?

Thankyou really thanks everyone for the suggestions

oh poor bubs -- the saline drops will still help -- will flush out his nose, i guess is the best way to put it.

Name: Atomic Snowflake | Date: May 27th, 2007 4:00 PM
The Saline Drops can thin any thick secretions out and irritate the nose so that they're either sneezed out or easier to run out. They help if the nose is really blocked up and making breathing difficult. If they're running out by themselves then you might not need them.

Another thing that I've seen on sale is a snot extractor!!! (it's not called that though). It's little bottle with some tubing attached. You gently insert some of the tubing into the nostril and suck another bit of tubing and it helps the snots to come out. The parent doesn't get a mouthful of snot because it's a different bit of the tube that you actually suck. It sounds gross, but I suppose it might work :-/
