I am a self employeed mom of 2. I have 3 businesses and am ready to give up! Any advice on what to do, stick it out or throw in the towel. I am unable to do the hours anymore and still be a good mom to my children. (son starting kindergarten and daughter starting 3 day preschool) and my manager quitting ALL NEXT WEEK!!!!

How long have you been self employed? I've heard it's rough in the beginning like you don't make any money the first year and that half of all businesses fail in the first year.I think if you have a strong desire to stay in your own business then don't give up! Instead think of what drove you to go on your own in the first place. If your manager is quitting then post an ad in the paper for a new one and plead with the current one to stay just a little while longer. Hire other help for the hours you can't be there yourself. If it's really your dream to have your own business, then don't give up yet. Just look at this as some bumps in the road but you will get through it. Most people only dream of going into business for themselves but that's as far as it goes. You on the other hand actually made it happen which means you have determination and ambition so congratulations there! Please don't give up just yet. Maybe you could pull in some family to help that may need a job? Don't lose all hope until you have exhausted every option first!!!!

It's horrible to be pulled into so many directions. Will it help with your little ones in k/pre-k? What about choosing the one business that is most lucrative?

I have 2 as well - 12 and 2. Work secularly 3 days a week, at home as much as possible with a great company. What are your businesses?

It's really an all in one shop. I have a coffee shop, retail gift and home decor, our own bath line, tanning salon. Down the street I have a hair salon, and hubby owns Real Estate, Mortgage, Title, and we share the responsibilities of Self Storage... (oh my god it sounds like alot) however, everthing is in one building including hubby's businesses except hair salon. So we can cover for each other when absolutely needed. But then we kiss each other at the door and trade kids vs. work.... One blessing is we're closed on Sunday's...FAMILY DAY, which is turning into mowing at storage and all of the vacant homes he has listed for sale.
O.K. I will quit complaining now, I guess we are lucky that we can afford what we have. (We've been in business for a total of 6 years for me and 9 for him.) I guess I just remember the old days of no children and me being able to do the customer service and duties. I am one of those people who have a very hard time delegating. ("No one can treat my customers better than I can") BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.....
Thanks for listening and I am very sorry to have vented!!!!
I will do this and be stronger, (at least my children will hopefully have good work ethic) right???
Thanks Girls, I wish you were in the middle of Wisconsin, I'd hire you all and open a daycare on my third floor!

I'm tired as I read your list - you're WAY busier than I am. I work full time this week (yesterday was a holiday and I spent it packing because we're moving) and then I come home and work the evening.

I can hear hubby bathing baby...it's almost time for House. MY TIME...

Tell me about your bath line. Oh, and thanks for the job offer but I don't want to run a daycare. I'm down to 5 hours a week with my sister's 2 and I'm exhausted...her's and mine are 3, 2, 1 (the older ones start school - Yeeee ha!)

Oh darling jamberrt, I meant you work at the shop, we'll have daycare on the 3rd floor, someone else to take care of the crazies, (do I mean the customers or my children? :) My bath line consists of 95 different scents, with those, you can create your own massage oil, bubble bath, shower gel, etc. OR I've even discovered using it in my cleaning supplies. A few drops of Grapefruit oil to my mop water and windex...it smells sooo fresh and clean!!!!

ooo...had me scared there. As for crazies, my youngest was one tonight. Could someone tell me how to stop him screaming? I get very calm and tell him to "use his words". Meanwhile I want to head to Alaska.

SO coffee mom, would you ever give that all up?...

coffee mom, that's so sweet!! If I lived in the middle of Wisconsin,I'd love to come to work for you!!!!!! Our family does have a summer cabin in New Auburn,Wisconsin but I'm only there in the summer and it's probably further up north than where you are. Our cabin sits on Chain Lake which connects to 3 others,Clear,McCaan, and Island. Wisconsin is a beautiful state, you're lucky to live there year round,I live in Illinois,oh well,at least I get some of the summers up there!

If you mean you have three home based businesses, you need to focus on one and put the other two on the back burner. If there is one you especially love, do that one and do it well. Or if there is one which is more financially rewarding, you might want to focus on that one. Three is too many--you can't do any of them well! I speak from experience.
