Hi Icechick!
We adopted our daughter from Texas - we stayed in an apartment ... fully furnished!
Google Corporate Housing and follow the links to the area in California that you will be staying. It was alot less expensive than renting a hotel and ALOT more comfortable. Of course - we brought our own bed linens :)

I guess that the area is alot more expensive than where we stayed,,,,, maybe try Embassy Suites. If you tell them the situation and the reason for your visit - they may be willing to offer you a discounted rate! BTW, Embassy Suites offers FREE huge breakfast and dinner type food :)
