yes that is a sign that your guinea is very happy they will often make noises like purring and they also whistle too. I have an albino cavy and he is soooooooo cute he often makes those noises too, so does my long haired cavy.

Guinea pigs make great first time pets, I had 11. I started off with only one and thought it would be great to see our first guinea pig have babies. They are so adorable when they are born fully furred, eyes open running around and squeeking. This year I gave them to a farm. I had too many. but they are great teachers these little creatures, my 6 year old son can be ruff at times but he was always gentle with these beautiful little animals.

I loves guinea pigs too =]] I have one named Bailey and he likes me sticking my head inside his cage so he can give me piggy kisses. He starts popcorning when I do that and when I put hay in the cage he can't wait for me to finish and runs around everywhere hehe XD

i hope you can help me i,m in a bind my guinea pig just had babies but for the last 3-4 weeks her hair has been thinning verry badly and there is like white flakes as well all her hair is almost all gone i don,t want to hurt the babies but i no i need to treat her for this is there any thing i can do to help her have called around and none of the vets here look at guinea pigs

It sounds like an infestation of lice. These are quite common amongst guinea-pigs, but the pregnancy has probably made her body more vulnerable. Buy a special shampoo - from either the pet store or the vet and I'd also take her to see the vet as well, as she may need some further treatment. Make sure that you tell him that she's given birth recently as this may have some bearing on the type of treatment that he prescribes.

In the future try to shampoo your guinea-pig at least once every two weeks with some anti-lice shampoo. Towel dry her then dry further with a moderate hair dryer (not too close to her skin though). Don't put her outside until she's thoroughly dried. You'll also have to start shampooing the babies as well as these lice are very easily spread. Humans can't catch them and they're not dangerous, however, if you don't treat her then her skin will begin to get very sore, crusty and probably develop a fungal infection.

I have 2 pigs. Both have been here about 3 weeks. They are both males and get along great. One is about 8 weeks and the other is about 3 weeks older. The older one will not let anyone touch him. He has drawn blood twice. He needs claws clipped but won;t let anyone near. Any suggestions?

Can any one help me out?

Name: Hiddy | Date: Oct 15th, 2006 11:48 PM
OH....and when the little munchkins (babies) are born, they should be kept with the females.....when the male babies mature and start to make those "machine gun noises" which means they are getting aggressive, they should be put in with other males ONLY.

Damn Hiddy, You're starting fights with people all the way back from March. Oh but I'm the bully!
