I am the mom of a six year old boy with Aspergers, Dyspraxia and Adhd. Only diagnosed 5 months ago. I have a husband who work long hours during the week and at the weekends he finds my sons behaviour stressful as he isnt used to being around he all the time. We cant go out at the weekend as a family even for a quick cup of coffee without it being a complete disaster, everyone stressed and us argueing about his behaviour.

I need help. My son was diagnised with Aspergers this year. He is 13 and was recently arrested for shoplifting. Then we found out he has been stealing from every where we go and doesn't seem to know why he does it and won't answer our question. He also has ADD and is in Special ED and really struggles in school. He has very few friends and struggles in social situations. He is a really sweet kid who is really struggling. We live in a small town and can't really seem to find him any help.

Hello!! Our son is 17 and was just diagnosed with AS a couple weeks ago. What a shocker but also quite a relief realizing that there is an explanation to all his quirky traits especially the anti-social aspect of it. Any advise on how to deal and handle it would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Hello, I may be someone with Asbergers as I fulfill some criteria and my father has been diagnosed. My parents believe I may have it but I beleive that my odd behaviour is learned instead of bred in myself.

If possible could someone please refer me to a plain english symptom checklist (something I could understand easily without having to look up work meanings).

Also, are symptoms important at all, or could someone have Aspergers by simply being beleived to be that way? What I mean is, do I need to fulfill all the diagnoses or is the opinion of my family more important?

I have a 4year old son turn 5 next month. Recentley he was diagnosed with Asperger and Sensory processing disorder.
I signed him up for flag football and he says he enjoys it and it helps him interact with the other kids. Have noticed though other kids tend to start something but he carries it too far at times because he does not know where to draw the line. I coach the team so I can be close to him, the other coaches are aware of his situation. He tends to disrupt the team but so do other kids but again he tends to go beyond the line.
Do I keep him on the team and keep pushing it??
He has improved by 50 % since he started.
He gets upset when I say we may have to pull him out. He has been asked several times if he wants to keep playing and he says yes.
I am new to this and just need some advice.

Hello there! I'm a teen with AS, and I find it quite difficult to be in a world where everyone else has different logic and they all seem like idiots. I tend to work quite hard on my projects (I go to a big picture high school, perfect for me) and get a lot of credits. I handle it by working on video games (creating not playing), petting cats when I have a chance, and also drinking hot chocolate (alot of hot chocolate). i always wonder how do people handle the pure udder loudness produced by peers, sometimes I pull out earplugs (as I understand aspies tend to have sensitive hearing). One last thing my mother chooses not to believe the multiple professionals who told her I have AS, and either says that I'm a hypochondriac or that crazy false vaccine theory. i can always use logic to win arguments a trait my father hates about me.

im 17 i have aspergers and i hated my life but i realized im smarter than so called normal ppl if u guys have trouble getting ur kids diagnosed or wutever.the best thing to do is se a psychiatrist.ive dealt with my agression and depression with high amounts of pot and other drugs but im now a recovering drug addict.the best prescription i found tht helps is benzodiazapenes such as xanax klonopin.i prefere xanax the most for the anxiety and it helps with the depression a little but ive tried almost every antidepressant and antipsychotic medications and honestly nothing works better than being high 24/7 on pot.i decided to give it up even thogh i love my girlfriend maryjane...lol.i was smoking 28 grams in less than four dayyz if u parents out there dnt no how mutch tht is imaging ur childs sandwitch bag stuffed full with marijuana

Hi I am currently working with a young man that has aspergers and I was interested in finding him a chat room or forum where he can talk to people of a similar age, he's 15. Is there anything out there like this as he is constantly at his computer and I believe its an brilliant why of getting him to meet others even if it be in a online capacity to start with.

Living with aspergers is never easy,
as a young adult with this condition myself,
I developed manic depresion at the age of 15 and I have made several attempts at my own life,
I went undiagnosed until i was 14, by which time most of my school career was in tatters,
very few friends, and i was very into myself,
my mum is the best help i could ever imagine,
no matter how small the problem,
and how badly i deal with it (in case you havent noticed we dont do problem scaling very well)
my mum is always there.
I think the most important thing you can do is to be there for your child, regardless of condition, and do not resort to drugs, they just make things worse.
and plus kids with aspergers are extremely caring and animated, we can be hilariously funny wen given space, the drugs just take away our personality and your left with a hollow shell of a kid.
who wants that?

Tommy,

My son is 14---15 in May, and a freshman in high school. He has aspberger's. Since you've gone through this age, maybe you can shed some light on this for my husband and me. Our son is very bright, and a nice-looking kid--but has no friends that he ever invites over. He has no interest in going out socially or having friends. He loves his game systems, expecially x-box where he does chat live and has friends through this headset. Our new problem is that he doesn't want to go to school. Says he can't get up--it's too hard for him. We make sure his game is off and he has enough of sleep, so this is not the problem. He's starting to fail. How do you get a kid up for school who refuses to go? What could he be thinking to not care about the consequences of failing ? Is is that hard for some aspberger's kids to go to school, or is this a power struggle? We're looking into online virtual high schools just to get him through the rest of this year, and he'll go back to his school in September--we hope. Any suggestions?
