Yes, my third son's heart rate was always in the 160's. My first two boys always at 140-142. Don't go by the heart rate.

Hello everyone,
I'm sorry to have to tell yo uthis, but the heartrate thing - it's just an old wives tale that wont die. A vast number of controlled experiements have been conducted to prove or rather disprove this theory. The babies heart beat rate is based on a number of different factors, however none of which are related to the babies sex.

I had my last cycle on 1st nov 2005, I did pregnency test on 10th dec 2005 which is positive. I went to doc and did U/S. HE said tto repeat the U/ S after three weeks as heartbeat of baby is not found. i am very worried about it as this is my first pregnency.
Is there anything serious.

Name: Hilary | Date: Jan 12th, 2006 6:50 PM
Samta, don't worry too much. I think you may be still a little early to hear the heart beat. I saw my 1st baby's heartbeat first time at 8wks from u/s.

I would not worry if you do not hear a heart tone only being 4-5 wk pregnant. this is pretty normal. my doctor did not detect one on me until 8 wks. even then the doctor said it can be hard to hear. so try not to w ry.

My little boy was around 160, he dropped some at the end, but it's hard to say. Ithink 160 is the gray in between number, could go either way. My sister-in-law had a little girl with a heat rate of 130 though...

we found out we are having a boy and his last heartbeat rate was 155 but at 17 wks it was 144.

That would be! I am 16 weeks pregnant with my 3rd son whose heartbeat is 160bpm. I had a level 2 u/s and he spread his legs so it is a definite boy!

Hi, I am having a girl and her rate is 150 b.p.m, I'm not sure if it means a girl or boy by heart rate, but I think it's kinda a touch and go science... I don't think there's a way to know for sure unless u see the ultrasound & even then they say that the doc could make mistakes and u end up birthing something else! :) Good luck with having a boy!

My baby boy had a heartrate of 120 at 20 weeks we were so excited when we found out it was a boy. But it has always been my experience that boys have a lower heart rate. Congradulations to all of you who are still expecting.

Awww the good old heart beat myth?? lol Never been so sure myself. The thing is, my son was in the 140s and my daughter was always in teh 160s. Coincidence? Absolutely. I'm pregnant again, so I'd like to think not. lol 13 weeks the heart beat was in the 160s. I'm like, ITS A GIRL again! But babys heart beat in utero, means squat.......unfortunately. The whole thing with the babys heart beat, DOES, however, matter in labor. In active labor, it is proven........not 100% all the time of course........but proven none the less, that a baby above 140 is most generally a girl; and a baby with a heart beat below 140 is most generally a boy. That did ring true with both of my babies also. Nathanial was in the 120s to 130s range in labor. Kaylee was upper 150s to 160's in labor. The waiting game is a killer though isn't it!?!?!

I am currently preg. w/ a boy... i am 27 weeks...
At 20 weeks his heart rate was 168!

Name: Michelle | Date: Feb 7th, 2006 11:21 PM
I am having a boy and his heart rate is right around 150 everytime. I dont think going by heartrate is a good indicator of sex. I thought for sure I was having a girl but my ultrasound last week showed it is definately a little boy.

Name: Chris | Date: Feb 8th, 2006 6:19 AM
To Joyce, the baby's heart rate differs a lot in the very beginning. My little boy was fast like that and by 20 weeks slowed enough, but had we guessed that early he would have been classified a girl, that's what we thought at 16 weeks. What a difference that next month made! By 20 weeks he was 160.

Well I' m in the same boat with you, I am 13 weeks and had an ultrasound done when I was 9 and 10 weeks. Both of the u/s said the baby's heart rate was 162. I am hoping for a girl, I have 2 boys now and as I recall their heart rate being around 140. I will be happy and satisfied with whatever I have. My next appt is feb 23 and I am hoping that I can convince them to do another.
