you should not get rid of your pit unless it is agressive but i raise pit bulls from blues, red, camalot, sailns, gators
,american,chocolate,lebos,merle
s
and more but most people think that one is meaner than the other and that is not true if the pb is raised around kids and in the right way you have nothing to worry about if the kid or kids may have hurt or torchered the puppy when he gets older he might be a little eary about the situation and then might attack but you teach them to love each other you have nothing will happen

it is really so much better to get a pit when it is a real young puppy so that you can train it the way you want and also raise it with your kids make sure you get a pure breed, with a champion blood line and you are all set you will probibly pay a bit more for a great dog i usually sell my pits for no less than 1,000 but if you really feal scarse about the dog maybe a new one or a new companion

No one should judge your dog because of the breed

Never! Let your dog grow up with the baby. He will protect him/her from anything. I have 11 pit bulls and I would rather leave my babies with my dogs then a babysitter.

If your dog is mean (or even overly protective of your children), then you should send him for a kill-free rescue. Otherwise, show the parents of your childrens friends that pit bulls are NOT always mean! I have one myself; she plays ALONE with my five year old neighbor and his friend everyday when they come to bring her for walks. The sweetest dog I ever had; I will never get another breed.

Do people have a reason to be afraid of him? If so, I wouldn't want him around my children.

hey, my husband had a stray pit find him at the fire hall. i wasn't thrilled about it, but once he got home, I fell in love. I don't even really care for dogs most of the time. Darby is awesome; I babysit 3 one year olds, and they lay all over him. He eats it up, but not them. They just have a rap because if they ARE trained to attack, they have much stronger jaws than smaller breed dogs who are much more likely to bite, but will just break the skin. If you must accomodate ignorant people, buy a baby gate or a crate for when stupid people come over, because they are exactly the type of people that would invite a bite from any dog.

I think that you should give it away, what is more important your kids or your dog? Well i would want to keep it so i dont now what you should do well i think i would give it to a perfesional pet person and ask the person if they can find a family that this animal would go great with.Thats what i think i had a pit bull and it almost bit my sons hand of and i dont think that is what you want it almost did that because my dog new my son was scared of it and that my son would always hit it i didn't want to give it away but we had to.I think pit bulls are wery dangerous. But if your get one when it is little then you have there whole life to train it to love and respect you for what you give him! My name is caiti and im 28

NO WAY!! TEACH HIM HOW TO BE CONFINED AND MAKE HIM LEARN TO STAY IN A CAGE SO WHEN YOUR CHILDRENS FRIENDS COME OVER, YOUR "BABY" IS CONFINED IN A ROOM ALL TO HIMSELF OUT OF THE CHILDRENS HARM

There was a pitbull that lived across the street from me, me and a relative were working on a car in the garage witht he garage door open, my 4 year old niece was out with us, i called it over and it came right up. It was the GENTLEST dog ive ever been around. it was smart too, one day i was walking the house it lived at and i saw it climbing over their 6foot wooden fence! i think it got my cocker pregnant though.

Sorry for my language but Hell No He is one of your family and PitBulls can become more of a member of the family and hold stronger bonds than many or any other breed. I understand what it is like for people to feel that way about their children coming over set a play date where the parents of each child (if possible have every parent who disagrees with having the dog with their child over on the same day to supervise. If necessary i suggest secretive setup it may sound drastic but it is VERY effective have them meet and play with the dog while your husband is out with the kids, 10 minutes maybe? then have them bring their kids in as they are ready they will see that he will protect them from harm (if that) b4 you know it you'll have more kids on your hand than you can handle

do you keep him in the house or outside

Name: pitlady | Date: Dec 7th, 2005 12:07 AM
i think that you should get a sturdy cage for the dog . and put a sheet over it . it works in most cases . my dog is the same way .
and haveing a pet for so long makes them family . and geting rid of them would be like gitting rid of a kid . i hope you find some thing that works for you . take care ..

how can i train my 7month old pitbull to attack on command

Name: Tim | Date: Dec 9th, 2005 3:21 AM
NO! You Should Get It Trained

Name: pheonixdown | Date: Dec 9th, 2005 6:43 AM
Are you kidding about pit bulls not being a family type of dog? Have you ever seen the little rascals? People like Shawn are the problem. You definately need to keep researching the breed missteri2all. You also might want to pick up a dictionary or use a spell checker.

I have a blue pit and I would be devastated if I had to get rid of him, he has never once growled, nipped or done anything aggresive. We actually had neighbors buy a pits because of him. There is 1 lady on this block that is against people having pits period. The German Shepard we had was more aggresive then our pit! And friends WERE afraid of her so got rid of her. The only problem I have with him his he licks on ANYONE continuously, because he thinks everyone likes him!

I make arrangments for my pit to be put in my bedroom if there is anyone coming over that is afraid of him and if it is ok with their parents, I slowy introduce him to the other kids.

And Shawn you really shouldn't train your dog to attack on demand, if you are in a dangerous situation your dog will protect you regardess.

I also need to mention that when I first got him, I was prego and when the baby was born he was more afraid of her, then we were of him being around her, since then he has watched me carry another baby and bring her home too, he loves ALL of my 5 children. He has never once got aggresive towards any one even if they pull on his ears!! He is a GREAT family dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact the pound were we got him from suggested that he be placed with a family!
