Hello, comming in a little late on this I assume.
First and foremost please pay attention to what i am saying before you try flaming this post,.
Pitbulls ARE naturally , instinctively aggressive, to small animals and TO OTHER DOGS. NOT TO PEOPLE. It is how they were bred nearly 100 years ago. if they were naturally people aggressive handlers would not even be able to control them into the "pit".
That said, I once was as scared of the breed (in general) as anyone else who takes every article they see as gospel.
until i had a 5 week old basically dumped in my lap.
Yes he was completely different from previous dogs, yes he was EXTREMELY willful. Yes i totally had to assert alpha status before i could think to begin to train him. and yes because i lived near a ghetto type area i felt compelled to give him a "roughneck" pitbull name. (Havok)
Within 3 months he had gained 25 lbs grown to an insane size (16" x 23")inches to you folks across the lake.
and was at the same time Gentle with ALL children (docile even), playful with teens and adults, and completly clown psychotic with his best friend a 5 yr old female(nutered) named Precious who in turn was ALWAYS more gentle with the pup than when "playing" with grown dogs.
Almost ALL pitbull behavior is directly affected by the actions of the owner & family.
I currently have a 19 month old female(Lady Jynx) that i have had since she was 3 weeks old techinically she is my first daughter.
My second daughter (she's human) was born 1 yaer & 3 days later. and i have had ZERO problems except for the ignorant fear of the breed .
one night im walking Jynxie WITH a leashand she stopped to pee next to a pay phone.
it happened that there was a guy on that particular phone. once he noticed her, he dropped the phone threw his coat at her and jumped on top of a car , all while she was still squatting. and as a side note this guy was six foot three & at least 280 pounds.
and had the nerve to say I always run from pitbulls YO.

as far as they know its a game, and any dog once excited enough gets a little nippy.
So dont go saying the whole breed is mean & killers because it is simply not true. period

| I think that you should keep your dog. If he's not dangerous or harmful towards others, i don't see why people are afraid of him. If your kids do invite friends over just have the dog outside while the kids are inside or have the dog inside while the kids are outside that way they aren't scared to be around him. My boyfriend has a pit bull and I was scared of it once but once the dog gets to know the person, they won't do anything. I love my boyfriend's dog now. I really think you should keep your dog, if you really love your dog and he has been in the family for quite some time then i think you should keep him. ↑ |

| I have had a Pit Bull since he was 2 months old and now he is 5 years old and recently we just got another pit puppy. Everyone told us we were stupid for getting the first one and even more stupid for putting two of them together, but they act as if they were raised together. My parents worry about my 3 year old son and the oldest pit is very protective of him especially when he is outside. So the rap that pits are getting is bull!!!!! And to all of the dog fighters out there you need to be fought like that and see how it feels and see how long you punk cowards would last. Thanks for letting me share. ↑ |

| no i dont think you should "give up" a part of your family. thats just not right. its kind of like getting rid of one of your kids for a reason that nobody likes her. its not fair. if your dog isnt aggressive, i dont see what the problem is . you should talk to thier parents and assure them she hasnt hurt anybody, and is a sweet dog, but that you understand thier concern, and will keep your dog in a separate room, or in the garage until your guests have gone. there really isnt a reason for getting rid of a family member, when the solution is so simple. ↑ |

| Hello eveyone if you can please help me then please do so. i have a put bull and i have had it for about a year or mabye even more but i have raised this dog sience it was a baby like a couple weeks old i was fedding the pup forula to it. well we have anther dog in the backyard its a woolf / mixed with a husky and well thay got togeather great and all of a sudden i dont knwo why but the pit bull always barks and my other dog the husky and dosent let him come to get food or up to my frount door to the outside. it like domonats the other dog and if anyone please please has any info on what i can do becase i dont want to lose my pit bull i love it like a kid please e-mial me at [email protected] thank you. ↑ |

| my pit loves my and kidsand their friends and is happy to see them when they pull up and since we have a pool we have a lot of the neighborhood kids over in the summer and have never had a problem with maggie. but i have also warned them to never enter the fenced yard by themselves because she is a territoral breed and i dont know how she will react to that situation. but that is my dog i know how she has been brought up, how she was trained, and how so has been loved. maggie is a wonderful dog who loves her family and would fight to the death if one of us were in danger. no doubt about it. if he/she isnt aggressive to your kids then he/she will probably wont be human aggressive towards anyone. dont let them wrestle or do anything physical around him/her cause they see that as threat towards "the family" whatever you do good luck cause there is a lot of ignorance about pits that arent true. as well as you know. again good luck ↑ |

| well am 12 years old and i had the same problem so this is my idea what u should do is build a gate around the dog make sure the gate is tall enough and big enough for the dog to move around then your kids can play in the backyard then when there done let the dog out then that would solve your problem ↑ |

| Pitbulls are badly stereo typed. The common traits of the dog is to be excited and energetic however, Pitbulls are extremely intelligent and affectionate. Placed in the wrong hands they can easily develope aggressive traits just like ANY other breed of dog. I have raised pitbulls and have worked with animals all my life. If your dog is loved by your family and doesn not show aggressive traits I would keep your pup and show everyone what loving animals they really are. We need more people who can work as advocates. ↑ |
